Planning on putting a scope on a 45-70. Price range is around $150 for now. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've looked into the bushnell banner, vortex crossfire ii, and Nikon buckmaster ii. Just seeing what everyone thinks. And recommendations on zoom needs are a plus.

I'd go 1.5x5 far as power.Budgetwise may have to look for a good sale.

Only hits count.

Do you think a 2-7 would work?

I love Leupold's vari x 3 - 1.5x5. Would be perfect on a 45/70.

In the list that you have above a vortex crossfire ii 1-4 power would get my vote. A nice low power scope works great. My 45-70 has a 1-4 Leopold vx hog. Works great.

A 2-7 would work just fine.

i like the 1-4x20 VX1 shotgun/muzzle loader scope with heavy duplex.
has a little more eye relief and i figure if it will hold up to a shotgun, it will do well
on a 45/70.

A 3-9 scope doesn't look at home on a lever action excluding a BLR

Does any scope look at home on any lever action?

Get a good used Nikon in a 3x9x40. My eyesight is getting worse so I put a Zeiss diavari 3x9x36 on my 45-70. Best thing I've ever put on it. Got it used for 300.00

A Burris 2-7x35 is in your price range and is a very good scope for the money. Optics Planet has them for $159 with free shipping. 2-7 is plenty of magnification for a 45-70.

This is a good suggestion. Burris is one of the most underrated scopes there is. I love Burris scopes.

Can you use a lever 45-70 during primitive season?

It is supposed to be breach loading weapons during primitive season. I have the handi rifle.

Absolutely not!
Unfortunately when our eyes get old, it becomes a necessary evil. But I would go with a fixed power, 4x32 or 6x40, something in that range.

I have a Bushnell TRS-25 1X red dot optic on my Marlin Guide Gun.
I think it will do just fine at the ranges I'll be shooting it.
If you're concerned with the aesthetics of a big telescope on a lever gun, this pretty much avoids that problem.

I have an old Swift 2x7x32 on my NEF 45-70. I worked up some 200yd loads with 350gr JHP for it that really work good but they're not pleasant at all on the shooting range.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.
