you live in town and when you go to the mailbox and hear a crow call you stop and listen for a gobbler.

How bout when you live in the marsh and rice fields and know there isn't a turkey within 50-60 miles of you and a crow will stop you dead in your tracks trying to hear a gobble. My wife just gives me a strange look and just shakes her head. My name is Marshmud991 and I have a problem!!!

I've been standing outside all day hoping to hear one gobble. I live out in the country but have only heard a turkey gobble on this property once in 6 years. I was thinking of starting a thread just like this when I realized I'd been standing in my yard listening for an hour

I hunted with a couple of customers of ours last week. They had never been turkey hunting before. I'd always stop when a crow fired off and they'd keep walking and making all kinds of noise. It was about to drive me crazy

Crow, owl, goose, it's understood you stop and be still for 10 seconds minimum

Ok this is a curiosity to me. I don't doubt what people say about turkeys responding to crows but the earth seems to be slap covered up with crows, at least my corner of the earth, and I have yet to ever hear a turkey answer a crow. I heard one answer a goose for the first time the other morning but never a crow or owl. Granted, I haven't been paying attention for that long, just the last couple of years but seems like I would hear it. Is there a certain type of crow call I should be listening for or any crow call? I guess I don't really understand why a turkey hunter would imitate a crow cause a real one is going to be sounding off within a matter of minutes.

Most of the time I hear one gobble to a crow the crow is right on top of him. The crow has found him by sight or sound and goes and checks him out. When that happens the crow usually has an excited, sharp call that causes the gobble.

I've always wondered why doesn't this situation play out year round. Are the just more opt to gobble in the spring, but I know crows encounter turkeys year round and I don't constantly hear shock gobbles

He may shock gobble anytime of the year a kamakazi crow dive bombs him screaming bloody murder and calling the murder in! I think in the spring he is also "primed" to gobble and this sets it off.

I travel all around the world. Last year I was in Beijing China and had some extra time so had a driver take me up to the Great Wall of China. I hiked up the mountain to the wall and begin to walk a mile or so down it's a piece of it. As usual, Crows are everywhere in the world and one called in a tree below the wall. I froze listening for a Gobble.

My name is Red41 and I am a Gobbleholic.

BTW, crows have resulted in me killing probably over 20 turkeys.

A crow has a specific cadence when he has found something to annoy the crap out of.

Once, I driving around and saw a flock of crows going crazy in some fresh cut over. I parked and slipped over the hill to see what that were annoying and it was 3 gobblers together in early season. I circle around and got in front of them and killed the biggest one. I would have had no ideal they were there or ever hunted that area (the timber crew equipment was still there) if it had not been for those crows.

Crows are the smartest bird by far. They will annoy a hawk, owl, turkey, coyote, bobcat, house dog, cat, etc. but if they see a human they are out of there. They can actually count I have witness this first hand.

What is really funny is watching mocking birds and blue jays return the favor on the crows:)

Watching Jack Reacher on tv, the scene where Robert Duvall hits "no shoot alarm" on the range and then Tom Cruise walks out 1000 yds to post his target and I'm listening for turkeys gobbling at the horn as he walks on the tv!

Didn't hear any.
