How many of you wash your turkey hunting clothes in
Hunter's washing detergent
Regular washing detergent
Just thinking about the UV brighteners in camo clothing.
I always wash my deer clothes in hunter's soap, but sometimes wash turkey clothes in regular soap, sometimes in hunter's soap.
I have noticed some turkeys turn themselves right side out when I know I haven't moved or to me seem to be concealed fairly well, but contributed it to a turkey being a turkey.
Another thing, what about an enclosed blind with camo cloth on it? Turkeys don't seem to be bothered by it, so it seems to me the camo clothing on us wouldn't matter either.
God Bless, David B.

Interesting point. I read an article in the latest turkey and turkey hunting mag that mentioned this. To summarize, turkeys have 3 more cone photreceptors than we do and one of them has a spectral sensitivity to wavelengths near 400nm (which is in the UVA light range). Most regular laundry detergents have a lot of phosphates that brighten clothes, and these artificial brighteners also glow a bright blue color to turkeys who can see the ultraviolet light part of the color spectrum

For the record, I've never paid any attention to this sort of thing while turkey hunting, but doing this will be a lot cheaper and actually has some science behind it, relative to the HECS suit BS.

I've always used clothes wash made for hunting. I do it for the lack of UV brighteners but honestly I started using it years ago in hopes of reducing scent too. I've always been afraid of deer ruining my turkey hunt. I know the clothes don't stay scent free very long, but I need every ounce of help I can get.

Turkeys aint affected by UV brighteners You got any science to back that up? Because there is science to support that they can see it. Whether or not they're affected by it is a whole different argument.

I don't wash my turkey clothes.

I don't wash my turkey clothes. I think I am about there as well. My pregnant wife's nose may force me to, though.

Wearing the same clothes 2 weekends in a row without washing is about all I can stand. When you can smell yourself you know they have some stank.
