Looking at the Tacoma and 4Runner. Which one is the best to buy and why? Pros and cons of each.

Thanks

At the risk of sounding like a smartass, but aren't they identical? Except one is a pickup truck and one is an SUV?

No. The engines are different.

Love the look of the new 4 runners

I would have one if I didn't have to have full size truck for work

4Runner. No real choice. They have NOT perfected the engine and transmission option in the 3rd Gen Tacomas. I have a 16 4Runner for that exact reason.

Had two Tacomas in a row with the power train that's in my current vehicle and got GREAT service. Read horror stories online about the new ones.

Mine is for sale btw. SR5 Premium 4wd with leather power seats, moonroof, navigation etc. 45k miles. All services done at dealer and running synthetic oil. Averaging 20 mpg when I don't pull my tractor (JD 5300 weighs 4500 lbs). $29,900

I like the way the new 4runners look, but please put a leveling kit on it.

2015 4Runner here. Definitely needs some levelingbshocks as there isn't a leveling kit out for it yet. I love the vehicle though.

The 4-runners are on a Tacoma frame & drive train and really if you want to haul something you can do it with both depending on what it is

If I needed a truck, I wouldn't be bappy with an suv. If I needed an suv, I wouldn't be happy with a truck.

Truck for me, I haul too much hunting stuff and dead stuff to deal with an SUV. I have a 2011 tacoma, wife has the SUV. We always haul things in mine.

If I bought the 4Runner, it would haul hunting stuff and dead stuff.

Buy one but don't buy new.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I drive a Yukon Denali, I've put 2 dead elk in it and probably 20 deer, and no telling how many dead turkeys. I've also put dead deer/turkeys in two different corvettes, a cavalier, an astro van, and some kind of oldsmobile like car my mom use to have. I like an SUV, because I can camp out inside of it if I need to and it keeps all my stuff dry. To me, a truck is only better for hauling something like an atv that won't fit inside an SUV.

The only way I won't buy new is if there's something wrong with the current year's model.

where do you put a load of gravel? Or a water heater with water still in it? Or lawn mowers leaking oil? Or chain saws that turn over and gas spills out of? Trucks are good for work and hunting. SUV is good for hauling rugrats, vacations, and light hunting.

I actually haul a lot more than just dead stuff and I prefer to use the truck bed vs a trailer to haul things. I had 1 SUV for about 6 months before I dumped it.

Power wise my 05 Tacoma will out pull my wife's 15 4Runner every day that ends in a y.

Out of those two, if it were me, I'd get the truck with a nice camper shell. Kinda the best of both worlds and I think a camper shell looks good on a small truck.
