It's always gone one. Just talked about more outside the locker room than it used to. I also think you are seeing more younger teachers in high schools than you used to. Seems they used to start off teacher younger kids and moved into high school as they aged. I'm not so sure that's not a bad idea myself. (of course my daughter is graduating in 2 months to be a elementary teacher)

I just don't think a 27 year old lady getting with a 17/18 year old boy is a big deal. And I do think the reverse is worse. Why?

I know some teachers who are now married to former students. For most part, they've been married for years and they're happy. Certainly not saying that to justify it. I'm just saying.
And I don't think they were 50 and 14. A good deal closer in age.

nothing new under the sun. i know of a case from 1971. coach ended up marrying one of his girl basketball players. schools boards used to get away with hiding this kind of thing. not any more. it is an abuse of authority issue, no matter the gender of the teacher/student, as well as sexual abuse issue. teen-age boys are stupid (thinking with the little head, if thinking at all) and easily duped by women. some of you guys can exercise your fantasies all you want, but this is abuse, PARTICULARLY for the younger boys.

In Alabama if a person is 16, they can legally have consensual sex with any person in the world except a teacher. It doesn't even have to be a teacher in their school. A teacher legally, can not have sex with someone until they are 19. This in my opinion is going to end up in front of the supreme court. This is a violation of the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment. You can not treat one group of people different than the rest of the population. Doctors, lawyers, police officers, judge's legislatures, dentist, truck drivers, garbage men, even the governor can legally have sex with any person over the age of 16. But, get a teaching job and all the sudden, the age of consent becomes 19.

I agree - I see no difference in male and female students either. Most of the world has no age of consent or it's much lower than ours. I want to say the average was 14 the last time I looked.
I'm not attracted to really young women (or boys) but I was very attracted to older women at the age of about 11. It took me 3 years to talk any of them into it though. I kept my mouth shut and no one was the wiser.

This was something unheard of back in the 70's and 80's
I do not remember any teacher doing anything remotely close to this and now its almost a common occurrence. If you believe this was unheard of, you're living in another world. It went on but either was handled outside the purview of the public - daddy beat that ass or the principal moved the teacher around, like Boy Scout pedophile leaders and Catholic priest pedophiles being moved around - or people didn't learn about it. I had a friend who was screwing a teacher's wife when we were in school. I knew of another teacher who was, in today's kids' parlance, a creeper. Just too weird, and he eventually got in trouble. That was in the early 80s. This kind of stuff has been going on a long time. Cable news and social media just make it more publicly known now.

A doctor, just like a teacher, holds a place of power in the other person's life, and there may not be such a thing as true consent. I'm sure it's true in the military too. I doubt a 5 star general can just go around slaying female privates (no pun intended).

Those are not illegal. Repeat, not illegal. They may be against the military code of what ever, but it isn't a felony criminal sex crime. Same with doctors, they don't get a felony sex charge for screwing a patient.
I am not saying there shouldn't be employment consequences for teachers. Loosing your job, I understand and agree with, but not a felony sex crime that requires lifetime registration as a sex offender.

I had a teacher in high school that was 26 years old dating a 17 year old student. They got married in 1988 and are still married.

It's been going on a very long time. I remember a male teacher messing around with the girls in high school. Nobody popped their gums like they do now. No social media or camera phones. I remember wondering how in the heck he got away with it.
There was a teacher that hounded me about coming to her home to help her with some artwork. I mean hounded. It never occurred to me what she might have been after at the time. In retrospect..
Character is not developed in moments of temptation and trial. That is when it is intended to be used.

One other thing not mentioned - teaching used to be a much more desirable profession than it is now. Now the only kids who major in education are those who feel a calling to it, and those who figure they can't likely do anything else. That 2nd group is the one we hear about on such issues. It's gonna get worse.
And going way back, my father started as an Ag teacher in 1951. He had already been in the service and was 24. My mother was a Sr in hs. She didn't have classes under him, but he was a teacher and she was a student. He got permission from the principal to date her, and they got married the summer after she graduated.
