Have you ever wondered why only certain service jobs get tipped? Who decided to tip the waitress but not the cook? Or the shoe shine guy but not the fire medic? Or the barber but not the trash collector?

I might try that....maybe then Northport Trash Collection would stop treating my garbage can like a rented mule. Thing is dang near destroyed.

One of my old forestry professors used to bring a stamped envelope when we ate out. If they had shared tips, he would ask the server to address the envelope. Then he'd put the tip in the envelope and drop in mailbox. 1) super, super silly to carry a stamped envelope around 2) How is that different than cash in her pocket? JBC, that burr under your saddle must be rubbing pretty badly. Good luck with that. Back in the early 80s, there were a few local restaurants around Nacogdoches that counted tips as part of server's hourly wage. Dr. Walker was Dean of the School of Forestry and a true gentleman. It miffed him that any employer would in essence use tips against the server. So he started the practice of mailing his tip so that the employer couldn't skim it. I was 20 at the time and it made a huge impression on me about caring for others. I guess I still don't understand. If you leave the server a $5 bill and he/she puts it in their pocket, how is it different than mailing it to them. Other than they get it right then. I can see not wanting to tip on credit card if restaurant owner was counting it against their wages Didn't mean any offense to your friend. I'm sure great fella

When traveling for work I intentionally eat at none tip places so I can stay under my per diem. But now I have noticed this as well at places like Panara Bread and Tazikis. everyone else just scrolled right by, you choose to eat at panera bread? By yourself? Without your wife? Is panera gay now? I like the 1/2 sandwich (Italian) cup of soup (broccoli & cheese usually) combo at lunch Good tea too well let's put it this way, if I was with a group of men and we were trying to figure out where to go eat lunch or supper, if one of them suggested Panera then I would be a little suspicious of which bathroom his birth certificate says he should use. I would even throw olive garden in this category. ^^^^^^^^ This

The employer essentially counted tips toward the wage he owed servers. That is wrong at so many levels. So Dr. Walker outsmarted the owner by mailing his tip to the servers so they didn't have to show it at the end of their shift.

Bravo to Dr. Walker and that effort. Too many servers get treated like crap to begin with by their employees and some customers. They don't need the extra BS of having tips counted against wages.

I've come to notice at some places if you pay with cash. Say your bill is 14.35. They bring 5 $1 bills back out. They kept the .65. I guarantee my tip will be a dollar less than it would have been.

Well the way math is taught today doesn't seem to involve learning addition and subtraction of money. So they can't count change any more.

I never have not been given all my money back when the change is returned. No reputable place would do that. They may bring five $1 bills back but the change would be returned as well. Which places do this to you? And where are they located?

I have had that happen the opposite where they actually have given me $6 dollars back. I think some places and wait staff hate dealing with the change. However, if they short you, even a few cents, they are idiots who deserve what they get. What I hate, and I have only had it a few times, is when you pay cash and they don't bring you any change, like they assume you just are going to give them that much in a tip. I had it happen once where I gave a girl $100 bill on a $55.00 tap. When I ask her where my change was, she actually told me she thought I meant the extra as a tip.

I certainly don't mind. would be odd if they didn't know you
