Anyone have any team name ideas?

I'll be hunting next weekend in Belleville, AL in between Monroeville and I-10.

I'm here. If work cooperates I'll be starting next Wed, Thurs or Fri in Tishomingo Co MS, other wise it will be next Sat and Sun in the same spot. It's only a hundred acre property and I didn't have any luck last year there but there were birds there just not when I was hunting (best friend's dad lives on the property).

Come April 1 I'll be hunting my lease and Lauderdale WMA. Things looking good for the lease.



Do my best to hit the woods as much as I can. Should get in at least 16 hunts, both days every weekend. Any more is a bonus when I can sneak away from work a morning here and there.

When it comes to coming up with names I am the world's worst.

Goofy name idea. "The Ruttin' Jakes"
Not so original. "The PBTs"
Horrible, smart guy name. "The Meleagris Gallopavo Life"

As I said I'm terrible with names; not a creative bone in my body, well maybe one or two.

Did just get a report on my MS spot, and it ain't good. Probably go and listen this weekend and confirm. May have to do some driving and hunt Sam Murphy down in Hamilton. Did that one year and it was some tough hunting.

Hey Gib. We don't open until April 1, so I'll be hunting MS March 15-31 at least a little bit. That qualifies as out of state but its only an extra 20 minutes from my normal hunting grounds.

Wish I had time and afford heading to KS, NE, etc.

I could potentially have a chance to hunt a loaded property in TN, but the stars will have to align perfectly for that to happen.

Yeah kinda the same here. I can hunt GA if I decide to and have an invite to a nice place in Kentucky but things will have to work out perfectly for that to happen this year.

But on the bright side we picked rights to another club beside the one I've been hunting for a few years and puts it over 2k acres there and should be good for an AL limit as long as they cooperate.

What about Property line piddlers?

Am I the only one stuck with an April 1 Bama opening day? I won't be hitting MS until this Saturday, work is not going to cooperate barring a miracle.

I'll be out Saturday with a buddy on his uncle's land. Unfortunately he has first shot out there, but maybe two will come out. We have 3 different toms on camera on 250 acres, so maybe I'll get one out there too.

I'll be after them Wednesday and Thursday but work the weekend. Solid pics slughunter.

Well, we didn't hear much of anything this morning. A friend heard one on one edge of our lease gobble 15-20 times but the wind was blowing about 20 on the mountain. Maybe tomorrow will be a little better.

I missed one this morning guys. Sorry. I had him at 45' and let him get to 67" before I could make a shot and I should have waited.
I'll try again in the morning.

I'll be chasing these with a buddy this weekend.

They were gobbling good this morning just not were I was setup. I called in a couple of hens but no gobbler in tow. When I left at 8 there a a bird still gobbling on a small field on our west side and I will try him in the morning.

Well we heard 4-5 but none of them wanted to play at all. One or two courtesy gobbles really early and then nothing. Off to work the next three days and then back at it Monday. Hopefully they'll be in a little better mood by then.

Getting after them in the morning. Supposed to be 37 but warming to the mid 60's so hoping some will get frisky. Good luck guys.

Well guys I didn't close the deal this morning. Birds didn't gobble much on roost and I couldn't get on one. Finally got in the middle of a hen party and got one to gobble at 10:30. He came in hot and then hung up at about 70 yards and wouldn't budge. Took his girls off and left me. Will try him again in the morning.

Clear and 52 here with no wind. I have a gobbler at 100' that I rooster last night. I don't know if he has hens with him and he can only go 2 ways so I have a 50 50 chance if I do nothing.

No luck. I had a dog come in after he pitched down and he went the other way. I move to a small green field down the road and called in a jake.

Called in my hunting buddy's first turkey, now it's my turn.

Not a peep in MS this morning. Would have been interesting if one came in since the shop cats decided to go hunting with me. May head to Murphy WMA in the morning.

Tough here this morning. Sat in the rain for an hour. Heard one gobble once during a break in rain showers but that's it.

I had a bunch of yard work to do after I hunted Saturday and wore myself out; overslept an hour yesterday so I didn't make it.

Yesterday, I did head up to the lease and the WMA; had to pull some cameras off the WMA and move some around on the lease for turkey season. Rolled up on a couple two year olds strutting in a churt road on the WMA, which was very cool. Had one gobble around noon on my lease.

Busy week at work. Hope I can sneak out a morning or two before work this week.

Well, finally got back at it and wound up screwing it up. Had a big group of gobblers at daylight but they had a ton of hens pull them away. I eased back to the truck to move and one is gobbling just across the road from the truck. I eased across the road only to figure out he was much closer. I knelt down and spotted him looking my way. I yelped once and he went back into strut but behind a ton of thick stuff. He then started to the right trying to find the hen and I picked a hole but picked the wrong one. He popped out and spotted me in the road. Oh well, maybe tomorrow.

It was a great morning for gobbling. I got pretty close on one but had a bobcat come through and blew that setup. I drove to the other side of our lease and heard one in a bottom. He was determined to head the other way from me so I was headed back to the truck and this guy gobbled at a crow not 150 yards below me. He was all by himself at 9:00 and came right up the hill. Pretty decent bird 20lb 8 oz, 9.5 beard and 1 & 1 1/8 Spurs.

Nice job Gib!!! I'm out of pocket for the next two weeks for Uncle Sam but I'll get back after it then. Good luck guys!!

Stuck at work. Watching the weather this weekend. May hit some south Alabama public land this weekend. Probably Sunday since the weather tomorrow looks rough.

Rain moved in quicker than expected yesterday so I skipped hunting and got most of my weekend chores done.

Went to MS this morning. Not a Peep. Sat for 2.5 hours and blind called a little bit every thirty in case one was around and had zipper beak. No such luck. 6 days until I know I can put myself on one.

Congrats on the kills guys! I've had a friend down from Missouri this week, so haven't been behind the gun. We managed to get one this morning. Maybe they'll continue to play the rest of the week. This guy put on one heck of a show this morning. He even jumped on this log and strutted down it at one point.

Took a new stand up and moved a couple around yesterday afternoon on the lease for next deer season. Pulled cameras and had strutters in front of all three cameras. Really working my food plots right now.

We managed a double this morning with another friend. The bird I shot was kinda odd. He has all the adult feathers, an 8 inch beard and 3/4 inch Spurs but only weighed 13 lbs. He also had really long toe nails. Just an odd bird. Was a really fun hunt though. We made the hens mad on the limb and it didn't take long from there.

Congrats Gib. It looks like we are putting some good scores on the board. A top 5 start after the first 10 days is pretty good. It should be getting good in the next week if we can just get a little more green up and the hens start nesting we will be fine.

Man I feel way behind lol. I've only been able to go twice and I wasn't behind the gun the first time. Working 40 hours and finishing grad school sucks up almost all of my time. Hoping to go this weekend but I'm not sure where yet.

Well, was raining early so we just stayed in and went to the lease at lunch. It turned out to be a good idea getting some sleep. We found one of the hottest turkeys I've ever heard in the evenings. It took 3+ hours and a few moves but we finally got him.

Yeah southbamaslayer it sounds like you have a full plate with all that. Maybe they'll be running right in when you make it out.

I'm feeling the same way SBS. Only been able to go twice, work and spring chores killing me. Start hitting it hard this weekend , hope to go 3-4 times a week in April.

Y'all boys ain't old enough yet. Give it another 10 years and you will be as crazy as the rest of us old turkey hunters. When you hunt them for 20+ years something happens to your sanity and the only thing you can think of is getting on the next bird.

Squad your assessment is correct. I've only been chasing them for 5 years. My business partner already thinks I'm nuts with all the practice calling I do sitting at the desk; I won't tell him that it will get worse, LOL.

Tough day yesterday. Had 4 close but none wanted to talk back.

One was roosted just off the property this morning but hit the ground and went away from me before I could even work him.

Tried it again this morning. Only had one close and he gobbled three times on the roost, then nothing. Although, he may have saw me setting up and bugged out.

Probably go again Thursday before work, and of course the weekend.

Checked in at the check station and 19 have been reported in since Saturday. So they aren't all henned up and being difficult.

I was on quite a few this morning but they were in a big open hardwood draw. I finally convinced them to come up the hill and it wound up being 3 together. Right as they got to the edge of the hill a hen called just to my right and I couldn't get on the front bird. He wound up skirting the edge of the hill and went straight to her. The back two stayed about a foot apart the entire time and eased back over the ridge when they didn't see the hen they were looking for. It really sucked to have 3 at 35 yards and not get one but I have a good plan for those later in the week one day.

Stay at'em guys. They seem to be breaking up good in Crenshaw county so next week should be our best here.

I got #4 this morning. I don't know if he will be an upgrade or not.

It's been a tough week up this way when I've gotten to go. All these birds are really henned up and have barely gobbled at all. Heard quite a few today but only once or twice in the tree and then silence.

Well done guys. Been avoiding the forum since its been tough up here and I'm frustrated. I'm dealing with the same thing Gib.

Its not from a lack of trying. Went every morning from last Tuesday through today, covered over 50 miles on foot. Only had one talk back to me the past week and he wouldn't come down off the ridge he was on.

Checked cameras this morning and I've got a good amount of afternoon activity so I may deer hunt them Thursday and/or Friday in the afternoon. Busy work week so I won't be able to hunt mornings again until the weekend. It will be nice to sleep in to 6:30 for a few days.

It looks like good weather this week so I should be able to close out my season by Saturday. The bird I killed last Saturday only scored 53.75 so I going after a bird on the ridge that will be hard to get to without bumping him but should score good.

I think this ridge bird is going to humble me. I had him at 20 to 60 yards 3 time this morning trying to stay ahead of him and I never got a shot. I'll try again in the morning.

And Saturday.

He got me again. I had him on the roost at 100' and he pitched down at the bottom of the hill. All I had to do was wait for him to walk up the hill for a 30' shot. He gobbled on the ground good and when he went silent I knew he was on the way. 15 mins later I hear him drumming behind me and I think that can't be this gobbler so I wait until he drums again just to make sure and I get ready to turn and I see him 25' to my left but I did not have my gun turned yet. He starts gobbling again and then he spots me sitting there with not cover to my left. I think I can swing and make the shot but I wait until he steps behind a tree...he just disappears. I wait but no bird so I lean left and right to see around the tree but no bird. I think this is the same bird I missed on opening day because he is soot black with only a little brown on his tips. I try him again tomorrow.

I did check another field before I left for work and had a hen and gobbler there. I have already kill two birds off this field and it's an easy setup.

Well I shot one this morning. Had 2 come in and shot the strutter. Joker doesn't have any Spurs.. lol I can't win for losing on these low scoring birds.

Lol maybe I need you to encourage me a little more. Went over about 3 mts this morning after one gobbling his head off. Was a few hundred yards off property line on him finally and someone came from other side blowing a crow call every breath. Needless to say that shut him right up. Walked all the way back to the truck and decided to stop at a little food plot. 20 minutes later and a double bearded bird with good hooks down... Lol got to love turkey hunting.

The ghost bird slipped by me again. He pitched down at the bottom of the hill and started working his way to the top. I had hens roosted in front of me so I knew it was a done deal. He step out into the road at 20' and looks at me and takes 2 steps to the right behind a tree and vanishes. This is the 5th time in the last week he as got by me. I had 8-10 birds gobbling on our property and I'm locked in on this bird like an idiot.

Haven't checked in a while. Congrats to those who scored. I'm struggling but not going to whine about it, just keep plugging. Back at it again in the morning. Saturday is a wake up and look at the radar day and Sunday is going to be a wet day in the woods and probably windy but I'll be out there.

I'm going after a different bird tomorrow and Saturday. I need to make sure I haven't lost my mojo.

Well got close again yesterday morning but made the mistake of messing with a fool bird that has given a ton of people the slip all year. He'd come to about 75-80 yards just around the hill and gobble his brains out but just won't ever turn that corner. There were plenty others gobbling that I should have gone to but just stayed on him when I knew better.

I'm going for my last hunt in the morning. Had one spit in my ear twice from about 15 yds behind me on the last hunt but he had the drop on me and I just couldn't get turned to shoot him. They've definitely gotten the best of me this year. Good luck on the final days guys.
