So here is a picture that AL.com is claiming was sent in by a person from Calera, AL of what they say is a jaguarundi.

Do y'all think this is what folks are seeing when they say they've seen a black panther?

Hard to tell. How does that animal get that far into the camera's field of view without other photos of it?

Plus, it's amazing that website didn't say it was an extinct saber-tooth tiger or something to try to get more clicks. It's little more than an attention-whore clickbait site.

Looks like a chunky house cat to me also. I think the key in size comparison is looking at it compared to the pine to the right (which is closer). The cat is basically the same size as the base of the tree which seems about right for a house cat.

Tail and short legs look right for jagarundi but the ears look too big and the size of the body look more like a housecat. It is odd looking either way to me.

Good size comparison is look at those I assume live oak leaves compared to the lower section of its back legs. Legs are double the length of the leaf so I'm guessing 5-6". House cat

I just found it somewhat amusing that the writer of the article said they took trail cam photos from just about anyone who wanted to send them, and took them at their word that each photo belonged to the person that sent them. Further it was amusing that for this particular picture it just flat out stated that "So and so sent us this picture of a Jaguarundi from Calera, a rare animal in Alabama according to biologists".

There are pictures of moose, elk, African wild game, black bears, panthers, etc. I find it hard to believe folks from Alabama are running trail cameras in moose territory.

House cat, basing it off the trees in the pic which are roughly 12-15" plantation pine.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

Easily solved (if they wanted to) by providing reference pic from same camera. Of a deer, or anything

Unless of course the only pic captured by camera was this one panther

I still cannot figure out how this cat walked this path and there are not multiple photos of it.

It's a cat and this clickbait-happy website only did this for attention, or this trigger-cone on the camera is incredibly narrow. I'm betting the former.
