Did anyone use these this past season? I've read good and bad reviews but they shoot good out of my gun and want to give them a try this next season.

You will read good and bad about any bullet except partitions, best thing is try it yourself and if you like the results stay with it. That's what I do anyway .

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

That's my plan but thought I'd try a last ditch attempt for info.

If they don't work out, I know where there's a pile of Partitions and Accubonds close to you that you can try. grin

Should be close to the amax. In all reality unless you plan to shoot long range at animals its really pointless IMO due to them being made for that. If its just for steel or paper target versions would prolly be cheaper.

Only accurate rifles are interesting.

I plan on learning to shoot a good ways off but that is besides the point. I'm just looking for real world experience with them.

I shot two does (85 lbs and 90 lbs) last year each at 120 and 150 yards respectively with the 6.5 143 ELD-X out of a 26" Criterion over 41.8 gr H4350 going right at 2750 fps. Both broadside shots that liquefied the heart and lungs and dropped both in the tracks.

Also worth noting, the 6.5 Grendel 123 ELD match factory ammo worked fine on two other does at my uncle's place in Florida for me last year. Both were roughly 85 lbs and they both went less than 10 yards. Again, lungs and heart were toast

I thinks the ELDx's are identical to the AMAX's with a slightly heavier jacket and the "non-melting" tip. I know guys who love the AMAX's, but they are prone to blow up at high impact velocities.

A custom gun builder from Texas named Charlie Sisk says the following about bullet selection - "Shut up. Load a Partition. Go kill something."

Don't have much experience with the 7mm stuff but the 6.5 143gn eldx is a very good bullet.
I shot a 300lb boar broke both shoulders and exited the size of a quarter. It never moved from its tracks. This was from 150 yds out.
Ive never been a hornady fan but this bullet has changed my thinking

I've never been a Hornday fan either but I thought I'd give them another chance.

338mag, I like the quote! I'll likely do that if these hornadys don't work out for me.

The quote is absolutely spot on accurate about the effectiveness of partitions. I've used Partitions and I can tell you they zap deer like a lightning bolt but I now only load them if I need their fail safe qualities. They are expensive and not always the most accurate bullet. I load for 14 rifles and enjoy using a variety of bullets from Barnes, Berger, Hornady, Nosler and Sierra.

The reality is that partitions are the standard against which all others are measured as far as performance. That is saying a lot. Not always the most accurate though that just depends on the rifle and load. And not always needed.

Don't know how many thousands of bullets I've got but most have Nosler and Sierra written no the side of the box. The best whitetail bullet I have ever shot in 7mm Mag was Nosler's 162 solid base. Don't make them anymore. That was pre-ballistic tips.

Cutting edge technology bullets are a dime a dozen in today's market place. With the exception of better long range bullets with higher BCs, most if not ALL newer bullets on the market (within the last 10-15 years) are a solution looking for a problem, in particular any bullets touted as having advanced "killing ability" which is a joke in my opinion.

So where do the ELD-X bullets fall in your mind: a better long range bullet or a joke?

I had good success with 143 ELDX in 6.5 Creedmoor this past season. Got three deer and all were dead within 10 yards. Complete pass throughs with good exit wounds. I shot 129 Gr SST's the year before. Killed two nice deer but no exit wounds. I like the ELD's much better.

I've killed several deer with the eld-x and it kills them just fine. It liquifies the heart/lung cavity. I've seen what it can do from 10yds all the way out to 400yds. Use them with confidence.

So are they any better than the TSX or TTSX?

Better? Define better. If it means better terminal performance at long range on non=dangerous game, then yes an ELDX will be better than a TTSX. If it means bone shattering, deep penetration on big dangerous game than can claw, stomp or eat your azz, I'll take a TSX.
