Got a little local lake I fish regularly that I can catch them on top religiously from late March-end of Oct.
Might try it Friday morning. Water temp looked to be 59-61 last week. Haven't gotten a report on water temp this week. Worth trying a small top water or still too early? I saw William (I think it was William) mentioned someone catching them on a buzzbait on the river last week. I can't imagine it being any warmer than this lake I mention, but who knows.
Ya'll are just overthinking it now

I don't think buzzbaits are ever out of season. It just depends on the activity of the fish and where they are relating to

Maybe a prop bait too
They use them a bunch in FL when the water is around the same temp. Ought to work here

Don't over look the wake baits like the Mann's Baby 1 minus or the CB-001 from Luckycraft

I used to catch them on Lake Martin on topwater in January when it would be a bright sunny day with mild temps. Some consistent sunlight on a clear day is enough to warm those shallow points up a few degrees and cause fish to stack up there and enjoy the warmth.

I saw William (I think it was William) mentioned someone catching them on a buzzbait on the river last week. I can't imagine it being any warmer than this lake I mention, but who knows. Our top two finishers both used a buzzbait to catch their fish last weekend. I've always used the 60 water temp as my benchmark, but not anymore. I will say that I wasn't even getting a swirl on a swim jig. One of my buddies did, but he didn't try a buzzbait.

Wasn't too early. Spots were super aggressive on the Pop-R and saw several schools chasing shad on top. Bite was more like a summer pattern today. We caught fish on Pop-R's, flukes, Shakey heads and C-Rig's. A real nice morning on the water before work.

I caught a bunch of bass last week on floating worms. I don't know why they quit making those.

N2 some of the very best fishermen with a trick worm are from your area. what worm in particular are you speaking of? One that really floats like an old Sportsman or the 8" Creme Scoundrel most of us used? Link below is a worm that floats. It's was hard to get worms hat really float off the surface. Luck E Strike I prefer a spook. you can slow it down or do a stutter step. Big fish are shallow, and they'll eat it.

They seemed to have air pockets in them. They'll float my 2o hook on the surface of the water. They're the only floating worm that I've seen.

None of those look like the ones I'm talking about. None of those are a true floating worm, either.
The same company I'm talking about made floating lizards, too. They were awesome, as well.
