Mostly target and small game, possibly coyote in areas where rimfire only is allowed

I like the .17 HMR just because it's fun to shoot and ammo is a little more available and cheaper. I am seeing more .22 MAG starting to hit the shelves again.

I had folks tell me that the lil 17 wasn't enough for yotes. I've killed several with mine. One at 281 steps, although I had to put another in him when I was asked up on him. The wind is no friend the the 17. It's a personal preference I like both.

Inside 100 yards, I prefer a .22 mag. Beyond that is where a .17 begins to shine

ive killed lots of yotes and hogs with my 17hmr as well as several javalinas a few foxes one bobcat and prolly 10 dump truck loads of armadillos. I shoot the 20grn cci jhp's and they will flat out mash some critters. I shoot pigs in the head but then again I shootem in the head with a 30-06 to. ill shoot a coyote in the center of the shoulder and they usually fall in sight, lest of course I shoot them in the head to. Bullets are EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! tho the other rimfires are getting easier to find as well. the lighter ballistic tip bullets are good to I just shot the heavier ones cause they shot a little better but ive killed everything ive just talked about with the ballistics too.

I wouldnt want the 17wsm unless they have started chambering it in different rifles than that raggedy savage bmag

We will burn that bridge when we get there

Ruger produced the 77/17 in 17 WSM briefly, until they discontinued the whole 77 line

I have a b.mag in 17wsm and I really like it. I did get the chance to shoot a 25 lb coyote. It dropped on the spot and about 60 yards.

The 17wsm is supposed to have the same power at 200 yds that the 17hmr has at 100 yds.

I like my 17hmr for most things i ask of it to do. I shoot the 17gr polmer tip bullet and the biggest problem i have with it, is the wind it dont take much to blow it off and it the 17gr. Runs out of balls on coyote head shots at 160ish yds. I wish i still had a picture if that issue. Shot him.in the head at 160-165yds and it gave him the headache of a lifetime it didnt penetrate the skull for a kill shot, buddy shot after i did and killed it so we got to check out what happened look like the bullet just didnt have the azz it needed at that distance went through the skin but when it hit the skull it looked like it expanded itself to pieces and most of it was around the entry hole. I've killed coyotes at 145 150yds with the same gun/round. So i just dont shoot them out that far with that rifle any more. I like it for a squirrel gun as well just hit them in the head because it'll destroy a shoulder/leg

22mag all day here but that's just my preference. Realistically its like comparing a 243 to a 300wm. They both will get the job done however why shoot a 20gr bullet when you can shoot a 40gr. 22mag will hit harder vs the 17 being flatter shooting

Only accurate rifles are interesting.

.17 WSM shooting 25 grainers. Inherently more accurate, flatter, and ammo is way more readily available.

I went and got a savage 93 22 mag with scope combo from dicks. @ $299 was just to easy to jump in a rimfire set up. also driving around town all day looking for ammo is my favorite pastime. Sighted it in today in the backyard but only had 60yd to work with. It will pretty much hit exactly where I can steady the cross hairs. I have a feeling I'm gonna have to upgrade the glass to get the same results out to 100-150yd but I'm happy with it. Maybe 4-5 flyers out of the 50 Rds of CCI I shot today. Had a blast shooting tho. I forgot how fun it is to shoot and not have to have shoulder surgery after. I was actually gonna get the b-mag @ wally world but I just really didn't like the bolt on that thing. IMO it's the worst feature of the gun. I'm sure it's easy to get used to after a while but just standing there cycling it several times tuned me off of it. Maybe I can find a deal on the 77/17wsm one day. From what I have read and after handling the gun savage really dropped the ball on the b-mag.

If you can find a Marlin bolt action you'll like them. I've got a stainless tube fed Marlin that you can shoot snakes in the head at 50yds all day long. However it will not shoot as flat as my 17 hmr
