I like the .17 HMR just because it's fun to shoot and ammo is a little more available and cheaper. I am seeing more .22 MAG starting to hit the shelves again.

Inside 100 yards, I prefer a .22 mag. Beyond that is where a .17 begins to shine

ive killed lots of yotes and hogs with my 17hmr as well as several javalinas a few foxes one bobcat and prolly 10 dump truck loads of armadillos. I shoot the 20grn cci jhp's and they will flat out mash some critters. I shoot pigs in the head but then again I shootem in the head with a 30-06 to. ill shoot a coyote in the center of the shoulder and they usually fall in sight, lest of course I shoot them in the head to. Bullets are EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! tho the other rimfires are getting easier to find as well. the lighter ballistic tip bullets are good to I just shot the heavier ones cause they shot a little better but ive killed everything ive just talked about with the ballistics too.

I wouldnt want the 17wsm unless they have started chambering it in different rifles than that raggedy savage bmag Ruger produced the 77/17 in 17 WSM briefly, until they discontinued the whole 77 line

22mag all day here but that's just my preference. Realistically its like comparing a 243 to a 300wm. They both will get the job done however why shoot a 20gr bullet when you can shoot a 40gr. 22mag will hit harder vs the 17 being flatter shooting
Only accurate rifles are interesting.

.17 WSM shooting 25 grainers. Inherently more accurate, flatter, and ammo is way more readily available.

If you can find a Marlin bolt action you'll like them. I've got a stainless tube fed Marlin that you can shoot snakes in the head at 50yds all day long. However it will not shoot as flat as my 17 hmr
Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!
