The wife and I are leaving this morning to go to Gatlinburg for our anniversary. Last night, I was checking oil, tires, etc and I thought about the spare tire pressure. Like most minivans and SUVs, its in a very awkward place under the car and has a winch system to let it down. I started not to do it, but I'm glad I did. The car is an 08 model and the spare has never been used. Turns out, it only had 10 psi and supposed to have 60. That's a sickening feeling when you have a flat, go to all the trouble of changing it, and when you let the jack down, you realize it's flat. Been there before. Glad I did this. Now I'm gonna check all the other cars around here.

More and more vehicles are actually doing away with the sparetire.

Exception seems to be trucks/large SUVS.

...always carry at least 2 cans of Fix-a-Flat, too.

I was looking at some videos of train horns mounted on trucks a while back, and it got me to thinking it might not be a terrible idea to install the compressor part of it...there are a lot worse ideas around than having onboard air, and the compressor mounts under the truck, tucked up on the inside of the frame.

Carry a 12v compressor. Comes in handy all the time. I also carry a small tool kit, duct tape and wd40. There's nothing I can't fix with duct tape and wd40.

12v compressor is a life saver.

Got several of these from harbor freight. Aired up everything from car tires to tires on a motor grader with it. $30

We had that happen a few years ago. I had a blow out in my wife's Tahoe and when I put the spare on, it only had about 15 PSI in it. Ever since then, I have checked them regularly.

I had a flat on my Silverado one night, got out, got the spare, found the jack hidden under the back seat, started up with the jack and it folded up like a wet napkin. I got a bottle jack after that.

I do too. I have 35" tires on my truck and have gotten a flat before. I don't carry a spare 35, so it saved me a lot of time and frustration having that and a foot pump.

Just stopped in O'Reilly ' in Hartselle and they had their 2 ton floor jacks forv $20. They only lift to 13 inches. Almost bought one because of price. Can always cut some 4x4s to use.
