Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation for a long draw compound bow. I had an old High Country bow that I shot when I was a teenager, but I quickly outgrew it. I would like to get back into archery, and hopefully in a couple of years I can start bow hunting.

For reference I am 6'-5" tall and my wingspan is 83". I'm not sure what the best way to calculate draw length is. I have used several different methods and all of them seem to be longer than almost all the bows I have looked at online.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

83" wingspan? Good Lord, that's a 33" draw.

Anything with a longer ata. My buddy who is 6'10 shoots a Mathews mr7. Any of the chill line or a halon x would be my advise. Additionally an elite energy 35 would be a great choice.

Doesn't really matter how tall.you are. It's all about your draw length. Yours is very long at around 33". You are going to be limited on bows that are available with that long of DL.

You need to have someone remeasure your wingspan. Most normally proportioned people's wingspan is equal to or very close to their height. At 83" yours would be a 6" difference. If 83" is an accurate measurement, you're either extremely wide chested or you don't have any skin on your knuckles. grin

I do have very broad shoulders. My arms aren't ridiculously long, but my arms are longer than most.

I just looked him up. He shoots a custom Hoyt with a 36in draw. I bet that cost either cost him a pretty penny or nothing at all.

Obsession has a new long draw bow and I would not hesitate to get one of their bows

I'm guessing nothing at all

I'm also 6' 5" tall. I shoot a Hoyt Nitrum 34 LD. A Quality bow but a little pricey.

there are some freaks out there.

Manute Bol was 7'5" but had 8'6" wingspan. Think he had freaky long fingers though.

Kevin Durrant now is 6'9" but has a 7'5" (89"). I remember it being a big deal at the NBA combine. I also remember he did zero reps on bench. (185lbs, not 225 like NFL)

Jadeveon Clowney is 6'5" with an 83".

So what king of compound bows do they shoot?

I guess I'm going to have to just stalk the classifieds and bow shops until a used long draw bow comes up. The new long draw models are some high dollar bows.

So I've been looking at bear archery. Their BR33 goes out to 32" and everything I'm seeing online says they tend to run long. Also you pick them up for about $600 which is the best price I've seen for a new long draw bow. Anyone have experience with bear. Seeing mostly good things on reviews.
