200 brave Texans stood their ground inside a small fortified church named the Alamo. They fought to the death against an invasion of illegal Mexicans.

Sadly, to this day, we are still fighting to keep them out.

Remember the Alamo. Build that wall, President Trump.

I see we have a history buff.
Actually, when the Alamo was fought, we were the illegals. We took Texas from Mexico. But they done took it back.

Texans were fighting against a corrupt Mexican government, that had made promises they never intended to keep. So instead of packing up and moving somewhere else, they fought back and won.

Something current Mexican citizens should do, instead of moving here illegally.

That is the watered down version, yes.
Don't get me wrong, Im glad we took Texas. I just wish we would have kept it.

You obviously haven't been there lately. I spent 7 miserable days near Dallas, about a year ago.

I think we should take Mexico. Kill off the drug cartels and improve life for everyone there. I wonder if they'd invade Canada?

Another version is that 200 brave men were too damn stubborn/stupid to leave and join Sam Houston's much larger force and live to fight another day. Appears most had a death wish. Heroic- yes, but totally avoidable!

Maybe your version, but not anyone that has lived in Texas would believe. They expected help until the end. Very seldom in history has anyone surrendered and not been slaughtered. Americans have given their lives thru history, we don't just run. No matter what you think.

Texas took Texas from Mexico.
After Texas became a state we started a war and Grant, Lee, and Jefferson Davis among others took the rest of Texas away along with California and most of the west. We even took Mexico City before they surrendered.

It amazes me how you always take things 1 step past necessary with most all your post- I realize Americans have sacrificed- thank you Captain Obvious.

And to be historically accurate- most that died were not technically "Americans". Bowie was a citizen of Mexico and Crockett pledged his allegiance to Texas.

And Texans have a lot of pride in being having been a Republic, etc but totally gloss over the fact that they existentially begged the US to admit them as a state bc they were afraid Santa Ana might come back.

We went thru the Alamo about 1972 and I was amazed how small the place was. I wondered where they had all the people that got killed. There may have been more to it that was torn down at some point.

Yeah to surrender would have been the thing to do. In truth their fate was sealed when they were trapped in the Alamo. Just like the troops that surrendered at Goliad and were slaughtered by the Mexicans. You seem not to be aware that Santa Anna was defeated and captured at San Jacinto. You seem to enjoy twisting history or you are a victim of a liberal education. I suggest you go to the Alamo and spout your theories there. better make sure your insurance is paid first.

For a long time it was not allowed to take photos inside the Alamo. The last time I was there it is now allowed.

Perch- You may not be aware that Santa Ana was released by the US, returned to Mexico and became President twice more. In addition Travis sent couriers requesting more support- he got little to no support and Houston requested that he abondon the Alamo because it was a lost cause. These are facts, no twisting history here- but nice pot shot at my education. I've noticed when confronted with a differing opinion you always just make a snide/rude comment about the other party.

Last comment- it's Mardi Gras, so fire away.
