How do you want to handle deer that have been found days after being shot? I would hope no one would just find a road kill and post it as their own. Every year we have a couple that are recovered after Mother Nature has stripped it clean and all we have is a head. Rules state whole, no capes, etc and I've tried to be pretty picky about it. I hate to do that because who the heck would hold a nasty skull just for the hell of it and go through the trouble of entering it. Of course an entire decomposing deer still meets the rules. Just trying to get some ideas for how Y'all want it to work or if you even care. So far it has not made a difference in the outcome of a contest but it came close to being up for discussion this year.

I understand either way honestly, I'd say if you have trail camera pics of the deer or another member on here backing the story then it could be fine. take mine this year for instance, I have two years worth of pics of him but I wouldn't have a member on here to back my story bc no one that's on the lease I killed him on is a member here. Like Yekrut said tho, there's no way I would have held that stinking head to take a picture with it if I hadn't killed it.

It would be really hard to enforce that. As for the other, rule says whole. Whole means the head is still attached to the body. I would go as far as to say no skeletons, that there should still be some of the hide present. That's still not going to keep someone from entering a blowed up roadkill just to win a contest for bragging rights though.

I'd say unless you are actually winning something of value it won't matter. This exactly.

I say count it. If someone wants to lie about a stinking head of antlers, that ain't his/hers to begin with, and they can't per the rules, they are going to cheat elsewhere. The truth will eventually come out, and at that point, I wouldn't want to be the fellow/gal that did it. Now, if there is some sort of prize money, or something of value, for the winners, the current rules of a deer with hide, full body, etc. should be enforced. Bad shots, and poor first recovery attempts will happen to anybody. As for the Aldeer contest, it won't bother me one way or the other though, in what is determined to be the best rule. Brandon, I think you have done a great job in managing all the headaches that come with the contests. Thanks for all your time, and effort in making it happen! God Bless, David B.

Current rules have worked fine for the 6 years I have been a part of this contest. Why change now.

I agree on this and wouldn't mind if it was the same way for the turkey contest. That's just my opinion though since this is an Alabama hunting site.
I had much rather be tried by twelve than carried to my grave by six!!!!

Any rule we come up with is an honor system so whatever y'all want to do is fine with me. The only suggestion I have that I think would be really cool is if we had a 10$ entry fee for the contest and the winners of the deer and turkey contest got tshirts that said something like "Aldeer 2017 turkey champs" with their team name". All of the extra money could go to the maintenance of the website or to charity. I know Yekrut does this on his own time and I would be glad to help out with getting some tshirts printed.

I'd be up for doing the fee for the deer hunting, but turkey contest would just be a donation to team 1. They already know they are going to win!! Lol

There have been several "Team 1's" in both contests over the years. Someone bigger and better will be drawn eventually, it's all about having a team that all hunts and fills tags, not about killing high scoring animals necessarily.

You are absolutely right about all hunting and filling a tag. For the past few years, it seems the team i get on have 2 or 3 guys that disappear from here after they have entered the contest, do not hunt or participate in team discussions. I wish there was some way to cull out those that don't participate.

Me too, if you get s team that hunts and if they all manage to get 3 birds then you'll have a chance, but people that sign up knowing they may not hunt but a few times just hurts there team. Just for fun so oh well, thanks Yekrut for handling all this mess

The only way I see of dealing with the members who sign up and then drop out, without hassle, is possibly 2 things:
A limit of post count or join date before signing up and
One less count of entry than team members for birds/deer in case someone has a team with a no-show player.
In other words, 6 players with only 15 birds needed for entry, or 6 players with only 10 deer entered max.
Might put a stipulation if one player enters a bird then 3 birds must come from that player, to keep from picking a choosing best birds from all team members.
Same with deer, if a player enters a deer, he/she has to enter a buck and doe.
As for the fee to enter, that would eliminate some potential no shows, but will cause hassles in MANY other areas which isn't worth it, in my opinion.

I agree with the post count or join date. That would help a little. Either way, thank you YEKRUT for getting all of this together for us
