I tune bare shaft. Headshot, the benefit of bare shaft tuning is fletching corrects slightly erratic flight from longer distances. For example, if you're testing your arrows from 10 yards +, they will correct. There's no correction and it's easier to see the error when using bare shaft tuning. The errors are more exaggerated.

I always paper tune with field points! my broad heads will fly the same as my field points and yes I do shoot them before I hunt just to make sure. I've never understood the purpose of bare shaft tuning. you are not going to shoot it bare, so why tune it that way. Paper tuning doesn't show near as much as bare shaft.
