Depends on what you are protecting yourself from. I carried a public defender with birdshot just for snakes for years. Now hogs are my main concern. G19 is what I tote. With a good holster, you should'nt be worried about carrying a semi auto ready for action

Just remember you usually get the quality you pay for. For personal protection i wouldn't go cheap! I generally carry a Glock 21sf in .45 or a G20 in 10mm

Have you tried the Poly Judge? It lightens the hip up a bit, but you still must realize you are still packing .45s and .410s.

I am seriously leaning towards this Century Arms Canik TP9SF 9mm. I just missed out on a deal for one for $285 and free shipping...
Full sized frame pistol Striker fired 19 rounds of 9mm 5 pound trigger Great reviews I've been eyeballing them as well. There is the elite model out now thats comparable in size to the G19. If you end up getting one I'd love to hear your feedback.

Get a Glock. To me the Keltec is junk, and most revolvers will be heavier than I would want. It would be hard to beat a Glock 19,or if you want a 45,the 30S which I much prefer over the 30.A good pistol like the Glock advantage over a stainless revolver is that weather won't be an issue, ever. Even stainless rusts but you won't have to be concerned about rain or sweat with the Glock.
I would recommend keeping the pistol loaded and chambered at all times. You will have no safety problems with a quality pistol like the Glock as long as you don't pull the trigger.I prefer a quality Kydex holster that covers the trigger. It will give the best retention and trigger protection without worrying about it getting, water, sweat, oil, fuel,or anything else on it and ruining it. I would buy an outside the waist band kydex holster that fastens on a belt, not a pancake style. I would want one that covers the barrel with only a slit open for water to run out.You don't want an open end holster for farm work. You don't want dirt to get in the barrel if you have to crawl under something.

A single action .45 in a cross draw holster is great for riding an atv or a horse. And it will stop any threat you might face in the woods.

Another vote for a Glock. You can get a Glock 23 police trade-in for really cheap. That's what I carry while I am working in BFE.

I carry a 43 in my front pocket in a cheap Blackhawk pocket holster any time I've got pants on. Which includes on the farm.
It isn't the best pistol to plink with.
It isn't the highest caliber of man stopping power you can carry.
But it beats the HELL out of ANY pistol that isn't on you at the moment you need it.
And Carlos is full of crap on his straws...

You can't go wrong with ANY Glock. Period. Goes bang every time you pull the trigger, plain and simple
There is 2 different high fence. 1 small and one big! Mine was free range in the big pen and was not a breeder buck. Why does it have to be twisted around??

Glock 23 Blackhawk Serpa Holster.. I can not recommend this holster for anyone. It is inherently dangerous. The placement and force of the trigger finger needed to release the lock has caused a lot of good people to AD their pistol - some of them shot themselves pretty badly. That holster is banned at any shooting school worth going to.

Glock 19. If you go down your wife may need to shoot it. You need something that someone else can operate.

Kel Tec pmr 30. Light and holds 30+1 of 22mag This is what I mostly carry in the woods. When I see a rattlesnake I get a little crazy. May not hit him until the 10th shot. My other wood Guns are a glock 10mm or fnh 45. Both hold a lot of rounds and are reliable. I only take them when I'm in woods that hold a lot of hogs.

I have carried a 23 for 14 years. .40 cal. I've actually had to use it twice on duty. Numerous trading exercises, it ALWAYS went boom when needed it to, and when I really needed it. If someone shoots their leg, it ain't the gun.

I was only joking,I don't know anything about the holsters except what has been said in this thread, but honestly there does seem to fair number of the 40 cal Glocks that have blown all to pieces.I think I've never seen one blown that wasn't a 40 cal.On the other hand I know there are a lot of 40's in service as well.

I swap back and forth between a Glock 19 and XDs9. Generally if I'm in the woods its going to be the 19

in the woods i generally have an s&w m&p .40 fs in a serpa holster (yes, the same one the da narc shot himself in the foot with in front of the high school classroom). i don't want it jostling loose and having to search for it in overgrown cutover, bottom of a duck hole, etc. if not the fs, then .40 shield in a wright owb leather holster that grips it pretty tight.
experience is a freakin' awesome teacher....

I thought you carried a single action in the woods? You were the one that convinced me to try a cross draw holster, and you were right. It's much more comfortable.

For those of you who think nothing compares to a Glock, this read paints a little different picture for the Canik. Polymer pistol showdown. I'll reserve my judgement for the next 20 years.I'm sorry if I don't trust the quality control of a gun made in Turkey as much as one made in Austria. It's the equivalent of saying a $300 Turkish made O/U is just as good as a $3000 Beretta just because it fired a few hundred rounds without a failure.

I'll trust those made by Springfield armory over anywhere else.
My opinions and comments are my own. They do not reflect the position or political opinions of Aldeer or any of the Aldeer administration.

I'll trust those made by Springfield armory over anywhere else. As in a 1911?
