central ala,
Can any of you with knowledge of these lands (if they still exist in some cases) please tell me which one and the peak breeding date on average and the average birth date of said land. We know the dates should be about 200 days apart.

I hunt the Eastern edge of Clarke county. Usually seeing activity about Jan 18th MLK day. Good rut about the end of January into first week of February. Started a little late this year and ended a little early. Still had some activity going last day of season. Warm front screwed it up in my opinion. Still rutting just not moving as much.

A book published in 1979 by DCNR (so the study was prior to 1979) shows 30 animals examined determined the peak rut was Feb 10 with an average fawning date of Aug. 29.

So, by your statement, if the rut has moved for y'all in the last 40 years it has been by only a few days if your observations are correct.

I would guess they were breeding this year pretty close to the same time they were in 1970 something.

Rut is still on at our camp in tensaw. We really didn't see much of a rut this year. Most of the action was at night. We usually start seeing bucks roaming around the last weekend in January. We have had a doe decoy in front of the camp house for the last 5 years. This morning a guy went out there to check cameras and she was on the ground with her head knocked off. Fresh deer tracks all around it. I start noticing fawn tracks in mid September.

Only 7 deer examined but peak rut average was Feb 6. Fawning on Aug 25. If it takes about 2 weeks for the fawns to start following momma you should start seeing tracks ON AVERAGE about Sept. 8. Doesn't seem to have changed much for y'all either.

It was January 31 for years and years and years. Then a few year ago it changed south of Hwy 80 and this year it changed state wide.

Weird I know but true.

rofl

With time and population swings and the crossing of deer from different areas of the US in restocking, I was expecting maybe a shift by a week or so. Just interesting to me.

I see fawns start dropping in July, mainly the 3rd and 4th weeks and some dropping on into August. Last year I took pics of a day old and a 1-2 week old fawn on July 21. South of there I almost bush hogged a 30 lb fawn a week prior.

I saw big fawns that barely had spots the opening weekend of bow season...and then I saw about a 30 lb fawn covered with spots the first week of February. Obviously these conception dates are the two extremes and he peak would be somewhere in the middle, but just thought this was pretty interesting

Here are the two maps I use:

The Alabama Rut Map

Average Conception Dates

Good luck!

EDIT:
That Auburn deer lab has some info. Not too science-y in the "Results" section of the study.

Looking at the avg conception map, what I see is that the Southern 1/3 of the state has a consistent time frame when the rut can be expected. The rest you can throw dart at a calendar from Dec 1 - Feb 15th and hope you're lucky.

The rut map show late Jan for Western Fayette and Lamar Co is not correct at least in Western Fayette and Eastern Lamar Co. That area would be about Dec 25 - Jan 7 or so.
