It's been my experience that the teeth fall out very easily after boiling. So, pulling them allows you to label where they go and keep from losing any. It's a taxidermist trick to pull out the tusks almost all the way to increase the size. Makes the finished product more impressive than it was in life. The base of the tusks are hollow and could get brittle or crack. So, filling the tusks is a good idea. Some taxidermists use fake tusks that are much larger than the animal's own. Please post a pic when you get finished and let us know how the process went.

When they are professionally done they turn out looking like these 3 that I recently did for a taxidermist buddy of mine. You need to do lots of degreasing on your skull before you ever begin the whitening process. The dark color that you ended up with is very indicative of the skull being heavily saturated with grease.

How do you recommend degreasing? I have not put any of my peroxide on yet. The Dawn is something that will work. Be very careful with boiling your skull. Too much heat and the bone will come apart on you.
