Does anyone know when they will be available? I read an article ( LINK ) that had a date of January 2016. These are a generic variety of soybeans developed at the University of Arkansas. The patent on the RR1 has now expired. Also with the generic variety you can save seed for the next year. Really tired of spending $65-90 per acre to feed deer...

There's already some non variety stated RR corn on the market. Mixture of several varieties.

They been available for a few years now Apparently not in Tuscaloosa. I called the Northport COOP, Riverside seed and the Aliceville COOP and none had ever carried it. I was hoping to find them online or somewhere but I cant seem to find them. I understand that the yields may be a little less than Monsantos RR2 variety, but I am not growing them to sell them. I just want them for my deer. I was hoping to plant 2-3 large fields in what had been in hay but I dont think I can do it when it will cost $65 per acre. Maybe I should go with sunn hemp. That runs about $30 an acre and is where I wanted to be price wise. I just dont understand why nobody carries them. I can only assume it might be because Monsanto probably pressures dealers to not carry them, or possibly lose their lines... But if anyone within 100 miles of Tuscaloosa knows where I can find them I would appreciate knowing where.

Doesn't surprise me one bit the coops don't know. They usually don't. I can promise several companies have them available.

around $25-30\bag
Thats about half the price, or viewed another way, you could plant twice as much for the same as the Monsanto...
My budget is what it is, I just would like to plant more for the same money.

Stine seed co is your answer 257, I looked them up but it looks like they have been partnered with Monsanto since 1997. Do they also sell the generic as well. I would think Monsanto would frown on that.

You can stop using the term generic because every seed company uses their own trait to some extent to prevent saving seed. PVP act. But you asking for RR1 soybeans and they got em any RR soybean whether 1 or 2 still has Monsanto tech on the bag or logo. Monsanto owns that. I'm afraid you're confusing chemical terminology with seed

257, Here is the link to what I read. LINK It is a soybean devoloped by the Univeristy of Arkansas. This is a quote from the article: "The generic RR1 beans trim costs at both the front and back end of soybean production, Ross noted. While RR2 soybeans can range in price from $65 to $70 a bag, Petrus sells UA 5414 RR for $34. And once the crop is harvested, growers can reserve seed, clean it, and plant it again." So with this variety, you could buy it, plant it, harvest it and save some seed, and replant it. You cannot do that with a Monsanto bean. That would drastically change the cost to plant beans for deer.

Got you. Well they told you who to call in that article. Call them and see. I just know you can buy more trusted RR1 from a more quality dealer than a university bred bean for just about same price.
