I am considering planting several hard and soft mass trees in a 6 acre field that was cleared after 2011 tornadoes. WE have basically let this field just go and only bushhogg it once or twice a year. I have decided to add a 2 acre foodplot in it and plant some trees to make it a little more appealing to wildlife.
My question, is it worth the extra money to plant potted trees and gain a year or two or just plant more seedlings and wait a little longer? Considering sawtooths, apples, pears, chestnuts, etc...

I'd go with bare root, it'll save you on shipping too, unless your picking them up. Put some poly tree tubes around them and keep a weed free strip around them and they'll take off and grow .

I've always planted 3 gallon trees but I'm getting old and want to see fruit while I'm here.. grin

I've spent most of the money I've made in my lifetime on hunting and fishing. The rest I just wasted.....
