Just moved here, looking for some spots to fish. I'm used to fishing Aldridge creek in Huntsville, or small park ponds that I can just pull up and throw some buzz baits around the edges.

Where should I start looking around here? The Cahaba river is pretty dang close to my house, but haven't really seen a spot that looks good to pull up and fish. Recently got into fly fishing, so finding somewhere to do that would be great.

I'm sure I can find some searching online, and driving around, but figured I'd ask the experts on here too.

You could probably access the Cahaba from the Hoover East Sports Complex, don't know about the fishing there though.

I've fished the Sipsey, it is fun. Its about 1 hour from me now I think, but was curious if there were small rivers closer to catch bass and bluegill and stuff. Thanks though!

I used to park at about any bridge in Blount county and go down and fish when I was younger. You could try that approach. If you see a spot on the river you want to try out, go for it. If someone comes out screaming " you're trespassing", say "my bad" and move on quickly.

Always was a very good spot for large spotted bass, but always weird to seen grown men in suits parked there trying to inflate other men near their belt line.

Yeah there seems to be a parking spot pretty close to Target, and I always see people parked there, but didn't see any trails or anything leading to the water. Guess I need to just get out and look around...but sounds like I don't need to look in anyones car lol.

There's a trail down to the water, but I believe there are trails off into the woods. I'd just be careful bending over to grab a fish there.

Yea watch your corn hole around the 280 bridge. You can try the oak mountain lakes. Used to be a good many fish in some of those cabin lakes.

Soon to be a shelby county park open along the cahaba river. Will be down hwy 13 headed west from the intersection of hwy 52 in Helena. There are some other areas where you can access the Cahaba also but I would need to show you.

I fish Lake Purdy several times a year, both bank and boat. Your welcome to go with me if you want.

There are some decent ponds on Cahaba WMA. I can show you how to access a private lake that I've caught a few big ones in. It's private in that residents of the neighborhood have access to it, and my fiancé's aunt lives in that neighborhood. It's probably 5-10 minutes from your house.

Jono, I used to fish the cahaba a lot growing up. There's a spot not far from you on grants mill road in irondale that has a little parking area and small boat access. I used to wade fish there a lot and caught plenty of fish. Just google grants mill canoe access and you can find it pretty easy. It's just south of 459 past church of the highlands. When it warms up I'd love to go with you. I would usually just put on some shorts and swim shoes and put my tackle in a backback and just fish up river for a couple hours.

Would that not be trespassing?

It's allowed for family and friends of the families that live in the neighborhood to fish, so no.
