Does anyone have any biologist recommended standards or advice for performing trail camera surveys in regards to population on a property? We have plenty of cameras and I get plenty of pictures and bucks are easy to distinguish, but what about does? What are the parameters for a good population survey?

Yes. PM me your address and I can send you some. It will be Monday before I can send it as they're saved on my work computer.

As I recall, and I'm going off memory. You bait the camera sites for a week or two prior to the survey, then run the cameras for 7-10 days straight. At the conclusion you count the number of individual bucks you have. You also count the total number of times they were photographed. For instance if you identified 10 different bucks and have 40 pics of bucks, then you can logically assume the were pictured an average of 4 times each. So you count the total number of doe pictures you have and divide by 4 to get your doe estimate.

I can send you the instructions and a spreadsheet that will calculate the estimates for you if you plug in the numbers.

They recommend one camera per 100 acres. If you have a big place it takes a lot of cameras. And you will have a lot of pictures to count.
