Anybody have a recommendation for a hand held release that I can clip on the string and leave hanging? Currently using a True Fire wrist style, which works great, but strap can be annoying. Do those handhelds work well?

I can't help on that. Someone on here I'm sure can answer though

I shoot a Scott that's handheld. I don't leave it on the string though. It only took once reaching to grab it and hitting the trigger and watching it hit the ground for me to realize I needed to find a different way. I do have a D-ring on one end and leave it attached to my D-loop while walking in or not in use. Leave it in a hand warmer that I wear either hot or cold while hunting.

I started doing exactly that this year. I'm using a Scott Exodus. I like not having anything on my wrist. I also have a Carter chocolate lite. It's a fine release as well.

This was something I worried about at first. But I set the trigger pretty snug. It has never been a problem.

The Carters I use to use had a hair trigger. It came with wrist lanyard with a knot in the end. I'd loop the knot over the buss cables so if it released, the knot would snag.

I shot with a tru-ball max 3. Keep it connected to the rope on range finder

Funny this thread popped up. I've been considering a thumb release but, I'm running angd gunning for elk. The wrist strap stays on all day, it's like it's not there. We round corners, top hills and such and it's common to be right in top of an elk. Thinking the thumb release is more suited for the tree, not sure. I shoot with a Scotts Silverhorn.

I swapped over to a Hot Shot thumb realise this year . I will be the first to say there was a learning curve for me . After I got accustomed to it I've never been as accurate shooting a bow consistently as I have since I swapped to it . I keep it attached to my wrist , not brave enough to leave it attached to the D loop.

I picked up a True Fire Edge 4 handheld at Gander yesterday just to try it out. The only one they had. Definitely a learning curve. I will have to rethink my anchor point and play with the travel adjustment. Seems like you have to twist the hand with the thumb down to get it close. Probably try to switch over after this season.

Swapped to a Tru Ball Max Pro 4 this year and like it a lot more than the wrist style that I was using.
