I have a 2013 lariat Ford F-150 4x4. It has the remote start option and when I lock the truck and try to crank it through the remote all it does is honk but won't crank or even turn over. Any information would be great! Thanks

...interested in knowing what it was, when you get it tracked down. I just spent a sh!t-ton of money upgrading the stereo in my truck, adding in-dash nav, Bluetooth, SiriusXM, and a backup camera, and restoring steering wheel controls. Thought about lumping remote start in with all that, too, but it was another $400 or so. Made me think that maybe walking outside and starting it myself wasn't TOO bad!

I bought mine used...it's a King Ranch F250...saddle leather, power everything, sunroof, etc., and some idiot put a $99 beater Kenwood single-din POS in it, disconnected the steering wheel control, etc...I'm setting it back to right. Still going with Kenwood, since it uses Garmin navigation data, but definitely not the low end models. The stereo and all the components/harnesses/pieces were probably a little less than 1K, but labor, plus soldering all the connections that don't have plugs, almost doubled the cost of the stereo unit itself.

If a diagnosis code trips the check engine light remote start won't work

Yeah, I've got the touch screen with the wheel controls and I love it. I've never understood doing that unless the original went out. Good luck getting it back together.

Already replaced the headlight and taillight housings, upgraded all the lights to LED's...white, not those silly-sh!t blue ones, replaced the foglights, replaced and rewired all the towing circuits and the trailer connecter plug, added aux. backup lights, repaired a short in the A/C system, and put an ALDeer sticker on it (doubled the value of the whole thing, right there!) Now it's time for the stereo system.

There is no lights lit up! It's weird. I got it today and love the truck. It has nav, touchscreen, back up cam, leather, heated and cooled. It's an amazing truck I just don't understand why the remote start isn't working. Gonna call the dealership tomorrow and ask about it.

If scanning for codes doesn't pan out, open up the remote...change the battery and look for loose wires while you're in there.

Thanks guys! The check engine light isn't out because when I crank it. They all light up like they are supposed to then they turn off. I'm gonna stop by a shop soon and ask them about it.

Check the oil level too. Don't know about that on a Ford but a Chevy won't start if the oil is low.

I bought mine new 11/07/2013. Still love the truck. I had this problem. I tried it with the spare key and it started fine. That told me it wasn't the truck. I changed the key in the remote. Problem solved. thanks! I will try that!
