What Johnal said is correct plus it is post rut around here. Based on the pics I've got the bucks are hanging out together. I can taste the koolaid on the 2.5yr old idea. Based on his look, and lacking the physical traits that a 4yr old and older has, He's got none of them and isnt far off from body size as the other one.

One final thing that i'll add is that he's alot more reckless than i would suspect an 3yr old would be. The camera is on a road in the woods. 3 different times we have driven down that road to target practice right next to their bedding area until dark and he walks down the road around 11pm. Seems like he'd be a little smarter than that even at 3. IDK?

What are the odds he is a 2yr old? He's gonna blow up over the summer. Chances are pretty good he'll survive this season. I havent put much effort into hunting him. Although Johnal is correct with everyone around shooting everything they see, i seem to have a nice little honey hole that is fairly confined and unbothered aside from me so i believe they feel safe their. I could be wrong but I dont have any reason to think anyone close to me is even hunting with a mile. The pics are 100yds off my back porch. Up to this point i'm just enjoying seeing pics of him every week.

Here's an example of the deer in this area. We had this buck on camera 2 years straight. My dad killed him the third year. He weighed a whopping 155 pounds.

We have 2 different body types out there. Some will get close to 200 pounds. Some will not touch 165 pounds and appear young year after year after year.

I'm not seeing the 2 1/2 thing. I don't think it's a 3 1/2 either. I'm seeing 4 1/2. Whatever it is, it's a good buck. I'd be proud of it.

I'm going with Johnal on this one. He knows the area better than me. Probably 10yrs ago I killed an 8pt not far from here that didn't have half the rack this guy does but weighed 210lbs. He's a beautiful buck regardless how old he is or however this season ends.

His neck flows into his brisket. He is rutted down in the back end. I personally think there is NO way this is a 2 1/2 year old deer. Looks like a 4 1/2 year old that is rutted down.

Imo this deer is much bigger than the deer in question. Much thicker. I can easily see this deer as 4 1/2 +. I don't think the deer in question is 1 day over 3 1/2 and I really think he's less than that but just about everybody on here knows a lot more than me so ...

Sure would like to see the pics from a month ago.

What about now? This is 2 years before he was killed.
The deer is wet, so he looks a little smaller than normal, but horn or body wise, he didn't change hardly at all. I figure he was 6 or 7 when dad killed him.
The deer BPS posted may be 3. I can't say for sure. I just know the body types these deer have and I believe this is a stud of an older deer that has a runts body.

Here's you another look at him too. This was the year before he was killed. Sorry bps. Don't mean to rob your thread. Just trying to show how different these deer are than most others in Alabama.

Not a problem John. I dont mind a highjack. Thats a great deer your dad killed. Congrats to him!

I think I'll go with he's a 4yr old. Makes more sense to me than a 3yr old. I'll try and dig up the first pics i have of him. I've literally got so many of him that i might have deleted them not thinking about pre-rut & post rut changes.

Crazy thing is that I've lived here 10yrs and knew there were deer around us. But it wasn't until i did some excavating in my back yard over the summer and slung some seed out and put a feeder in the middle of it that they started coming in like cattle. The feeder sits in plain view of my house and is 60yds from my back porch. The pics are on a road probably 100-150yds (uphill) through the woods (out of sight) from my back porch. I've only caught one pic of this buck on the plot in my back yard so he does have some degree of caution when it comes to making an appearance.

Its funny because if i'm working outside once the sun goes down the deer will blow at me and stomp their feet as to tell me to get the heck out of there so they can eat. As soon as I go inside and can get to a window they will be on the plot chowing away. grin
