I would have probably done the same thing and let it ride.
I thought you were going to say it locked up and broke all to hell when he fired it back up. What would your "friend" had done if that would've happened? That to me would be the only deciding factor if I would or would not help him again. The $1.50 drink wouldn't really bother me.

With what little info you've given I'd say his gas station won't work for him long term.

You can't operate that way and stay business very long. You MUST take care of your customers.

Maybe by the next time you go he will realize he screwed up and make it right.

You are a bigger man than him and did the right thing. No good deed goes unpaid.
I know that a part of your wants to give him a bill for $50 for being a friend and $0.00 for changing the belt.
Maybe he will pass it on one day to someone who is really in need.

How it could have transpired:

Owner: "That'll be $1.50"

You: "This must be your lucky day. I've saved you at least $75 because I'm only going to charge you $50 for the service call, including labor, so you can take the $1.50 out of what you owe me and give me the rest of the change."

However, I think you did the right thing. My best advise: Let it go. You did your good deed. Don't let others determine or control how you feel. You had a chance to do good, and that's on you. How he reacts to your goodness is on him. We often expect others to react like we would react and that leads to disappointment in others. If it is going to be something that bothers you, ask him about it and clear the air. Ask him why he charged you for the coke when you saved him over $125??? Otherwise, forget it and move on.

Just keep doing what you do. He might have had a mild brain fart. Good chance he'll think about it and make it up to you next time. If not you still did a good deed and you haven't lost anything.

The way I look at these situations is like this: Everything we have (money, time, ability, knowledge, talent, etc.) belongs to God and he blesses us with these things. When the friend asked you to do this you were blessed with everything needed to help the man, used those blessings that God gave gave you to do so and in turn through you God blessed your friend. You done right by God and your friend. According to the Bible when we take God's blessing and use them he gives us more because He knows we are good stewards. Some who don't know call it karma, they recognize the blessings but don't know the Blesser!
