Friend killed a buck that had obviously been fighting. Some holes in rear look like from tines of another buckwith some smelly liquid oozing from them. He hates to waste the animal but we recommended not eating. What do you say.

I personally wouldn't risk it. If it is smelly, there is some bad stuff happening and no telling how far it has spread. Not worth the risk, IMHO.

Toss his rear, eat the straps and jerky the front end.

I killed a 9 point in early December that had a smelly infection from a prior gun shot wound. I couldn't make myself keep any of them meat. It would be hard to eat any of it with the thought of something possibly being wrong with the meat.

Killed one several years ago that had been shot twice and had infection I couldn't make myself eat that deer.
Its just not worth the risk IMO

Ive seen one like that before too and I wouldnt eat it. This one had puncture wounds from fighting like youre talking about and when we skint it out there was puss all over the inside of the hide. It looked nasty. Someone may say its just fine to eat but I dont see the need in chancing it.

You know the bucks we are seeing have these puncture wounds all over them. I want to see the buck that is administering these whooping.

Don't eat it. I killed one earlier this year that had infection in it. The processor recommended not eating any of it.

If it's just a small wound I don't worry about it but if it's oozing something then there is a pretty good infection. Coyotes got to eat!

Few years ago during the rut we saw 2 different bucks with an eye knocked out, in the same area I killed a buck with 9 in brow tines and one had a fork on the end. I always figured he was the one knocking eyes out.
