Ok gun pro's gotta a question.
I have a Remington 700 AAC in 308. I just put the Magpul Hunter stock on it. It also has a Talley 20MOA Picatinney Base. I have a Bushnell 6x24x50 scope that I will putting on there as well. What height/size rings should I get and what brand? Should I remove the base and just use talley rings?

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

Which Talley rings? If you are talking about lightweights, I wouldn't because of the size and weight of your scope.

Do you need the base for shooting longer distance or for scope placement?

I just put a set of Burris tactical on a savage , if you are trying to keep the tacticool look going I'd go with them in a low height. Check out the thread I posted rifle in the making and you can see how high the high rings set with a 50mm. I ordered the lows after measuring the clearance I had.

I don't have to use the base. It's an option.

You will have to use some sort of base anyway even if it's the two piece ones for the Talley's,will you not?

I just looked at the Burris tac rings. They look pretty good

The talley rings I was looking at had the base built in.

I may just keep the rail to give me a bit more distance. I am building this gun a distance target shooter. Maybe do a little hunting with it out west unless I build another one in a larger caliber.

You might want to keep the 20moa base. It just depends on how far you intend to shoot and how much adjustment that scope has.

I would invest in some good quality rings and not try to save a few bucks if interested in long range targets.Murphy Precision or Seekins. I've heard complaints of the Talley low picatinney breaking.

If you are needing distance keep the 20moa base and buy some rings. I don't think these Burris will break under normal conditions. They are built heavy. I've never had any rings of any brand break come to think of it.

I put some 30mm weaver 6-hole on a 20moa rail 'to keep the tactical look' and have been pleased with.

I'd keep the rail...The Burris tactical are good rings. I also have some vortex rings that are basically Seekins Precision they re-branded for vortex. I also like and use the Leupold PRW rings. I don't personally know if low will give you enough clearance. I generally go with medium and they are still low enough for me to get a good cheek weld. If others have used low and it worked then you may want to try those.

Doc, I have a nightforce rail that appears to be thicker than some I've seen that may be why my scope is so high, I measured the clearance I had left under the scope and the low rings should still have .312" space between the barrel and scope.

Good gracious Gerty, whata gap!!!! grin ... I'd definitely go with the low rings in that case.
