I've never been there but we are planning a week long trip up there in the spring. Recommendations of things to see and do while we are there would be appreciated.

I would also like to ask how hard is it to pull a camper to the mountain top campground? I have an F150 with a 5.4 and my camper is in the 9k pound range.

I stay there quite a bit with work. As far as things to see and do in the area I'm not really sure. Maybe a local will have more info.

It's going to be a climb up the mountain pulling a load just take it slow and easy and you'll will be fine. Hope y'all enjoy yourselves!

We ate at the restaurant a couple months ago. Fantastic view and the food wasn't bad at all. DONT be in the chair facing the window at sundown though. I about went blind until I found a column to hide the sun behind. Had to switch tables.

LOL...I should have said besides the obvious. We will do some hiking, fishing, etc. Just wondering if there were any other sites close by that we should take in that aren't a part of the park.

Thanks for the suggestions, we are looking forward to going. It will be the first trip since we bought this camper, and Cheaha looks like a great place to try it out.

Thanks, having never been there I wasn't sure how steep the grade is, so I was a little nervous about whether my truck would pull the grade with this camper since it's pretty heavy.

What's the name of the popular spot on Cheaha Creek? I hear there's good scenery there from time to time if the weather's nice.

Yes! Do this and I should have mentioned it. Not near as steep.

There are a couple of steep hills coming from Oxford but definitely not as bad or curvy as the munford side.

You can go to salt creek falls if the water is up by the time you go there. There used to be a 10 ft alligator in hillabee watershed but some jackasses decided it had to be killed, there may still be one in there about 12 ft but I've never personally seen that one. You can fish in hillabee, chinnabee, and cheaha lakes. You can go to the sams club in oxford and gaze at the Indian mound that was desecrated to get fill dirt for the SAMs club. Metalmuncher, I don't know what they feed everyone other than me that goes to matas but Ive been there 20 times and still hate their pizza. Salt creek falls and the overlook from the restaurant are probably my 2 favorite things around there. hell, I got married on the back deck at the restaurant.

Yeah c’mon. Daniel White

I grew up on the mountain, Munford/Talladega side (Camp Mac). The park itself is good for hiking and camping, lots of trails (Pinhoti comes through there). The primary attraction is Bald Rock, there's a nice wooden walking path out to it. It's a huge rock with a view, pretty much the highest place in the state. If you're there during turkey season, it's still pretty good all over the mountain, but it used to be world class! Chinnabee has a lake for fishing (you'd need your own flatbottom), and a hiking trail up the creek to some falls called "Devil's Den". Nightlife and food, you'll want to run into Oxford or Anniston. Can give you lots of good rec's for any of that (I live in Anniston now)

How close were you to Camp? I worked there for years.

Lots of good info, thanks again for chiming in. Now I just have to finish up the work on the camper, or I will be in big trouble with the wife if I am not ready to go by the end of March.
