That is awesome! I'm sure there's no money in fuel wood though. Right?
Talk about starting with a blank slate!

I'd sit near any pinch point where they can cut the field and avoid crossing the wide spots. Like that point in the treeline, that's almost behind the tree in upper left.

This property belongs to my FIL. He bought it from one of my cousins on other side of family. He had a CD maturing and needed something to invest in. The fuel wood actually fetched him about a grand and bonus was the clearing of property. Timber Company plans to spray in spring, then burn and plant next fall but don't see how the fire will spread because of the job that was done. Wonder if hand planting this 40 acres by myself would be cheaper, because he said to treat property and replant is about $10k, state picks up 75% and our cost would be 2-3k.

Just a thought but I understand the State will pick up more for longleaf, at least they were. Somebody with more knowledge than me about it could tell you.

Find a draw, a swag, a pinch point between heads of woods, some kind of funnel, and you will likely see deer. If they're still chasing you'll see a buck.

Easy to find tracks following hard rain. I bet they'll travel the same routes they did before it was cut. Find the trails and gps them so in 5 or 10 yrs you'll know exactly where to set up.

Chasing or not they use pinch points or draws to travel safely.
They should already be cruising.

Wish my loggers would have cleaned up that nice. Ours looked like a bomb went off and just blew the limbs off the tree when they left. But to answer your question watch the tree line with binos.

Workin for the man, huntin when I can.
