Trail cam pics have caught 2 on my property so far. As end of Jan approaches I'm more worried about thieves. So I set out to find whats the best lock to secure mine and sons climbers. Not much out there so I finally decide on the Python cable lock. Right before I click the ol purchase button I think, go search this on youtube. Check out how easy it is to unlock this Python.

I know a thief is going to get what he wants if he wants it bad enough. What are you guys using if you secure your stand?

Wish I would've had this a couple weeks ago. I have 80 acres that I hunt that is mine and have had my climber on the same tree for 3 years solid. Went to put corn out and check the camera last weekend and I have to ride right by my climber on the 4 wheeler to get where I put the corn out at and where my camera is also at. I looked over at the tree to find that my climber was gone. The first thing I thought was that if they got that old climber I know my camera is definitely gone but to my surprise it was still there and didn't appear to have been touched. I pulled my camera off the tree, didn't put out any corn at all and haven't been back out there hunting since.

Locks are for honest people.

If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.

I have five Python locks and none of them look like that one. That looks like an older Python. Like it has been said, a lock is only a deterrent.

Harbor Freight sales a long heavy duty security cable I'd use if I were you. I snagged one for 6.99 one time.

Throw a good lock on it and it's gonna keep 99.9% of the folks honest.

I know I always carry my lock tension tool and brass hammer with me when in the woods. HaHa. I use a 6' bicycle lock (Master Lock) on my climbing stands. As has been said before, it only keeps honest people from stealing. I have had two climbers and three pop-up blinds stolen in 30 years.

The only time I leave mine in the woods is at a spot that I KNOW no one else is getting to unless they are real real determined. If they wanted to hike my stand out after the hike involved...they are desperate.

I need to get it out soon, not looking forward to that hike.

This, it keeps most the kids and piddlers away. That being said, if somebody is determined to take your stand they will take it. Lost some nice stands over the years, but that's part of the price of hunting I suppose.

Heck, ain't now way on earth I'd leave my climbing stand... not because I'm worried someone would steal (probably extremely low odds), but because I don't want the padded parts wet. Nor do I want spiders crawling in every hole available!! grin

I will NOT get in a loc-on until I've killed the funnel web spider that ALWAYS builds a web in the tubing against the tree!

The main problem I have had with padded seats is dang squirrels, both flying and cat.
