Not like the local boy who cuts your grass, but one of those Trugreen or Chemlawn deals? I used to really enjoy doing all that myself, but I just don't take the time to anymore. Wondering what they cost before I call and get one of them chasing after me. Is it like $25/mo, or way more than that??

Several of my customers back in VA used Trugreen. I told them not too because it was a waste and was gonna cost them more in the end. Now don't get me wrong their lawn grew like crazy and was really green. But I had to charge them more because it got to the point I was mowing it twice a week due it growing so fast.

I would rather be tried by 12, than carried by 6.

Truegreen only makes your yard grow as far as I know, They don't cut yards that I know of...

I use TrueGreen now. I have for the last 7 years. They come out 8 times a year. I am really happy with the service and results. I hate fertilizing and doing weed control. But I do enjoy cutting my own grass.

I worked for a Chemlawn franchise while in college. They had a good program, costs were figured on square footage and type of service.

The "green" comes from applications of iron sulfate. We added granular iron to the tank mix. N was added as a mix or urea and sulfur coated urea (slow release). Potash was bagged and Phosphorus added as phosphoric acid.

Back then broadleaf control was a mix of triclopyr, dicamba and 2,4D. Pendimethalin was added as a pre-emergent in the spring. I'm sure there are newer formulations of herbicides used now.

"Cull" is just another four letter word...

Oh, I love cutting grass and doing my landscaping work, I just don't know anymore that it's cost effective to do my own fertilizer/weed-n-feed/etc. That @#$@# is high!!! LOL
And honestly I don't know what I'm doing...plus my yard is sorta a mix. Got some Bermuda, centipede, even zoysia or st. Augustine. I confuse myself reading up on it, some things will kill certain grasses, etc. I just always hear about the "sanding" and chemical spraying...and it looks nice. (Not sure if they sand anymore?)

Sand is great to fill in low places. The grass will fill in rather quickly. You see it a lot on athletic fields.

I used one about 8 or so years ago for about 2 years. Weed control was why I signed up. I never really saw a difference in weeds. I gave them up when I was home one day and watched the guy literally run thru my yard as fast as he could spraying and jump in the truck and leave. No way did enough product get put out.

I cancelled and got on a fertilome program with pre emergents and every other month spread granuals. Works good. Less weeds means healthier thicker grass.

I use Hunterturf as well. Great guy and does a great job. Goes way above and beyond a normal lawncare company. Always sends me a text the day before he's coming so I can unlock the back gate and have the dog put up then he locks it back for me when he leaves. Last summer he pointed out a yellow jacket nest in the corner of the yard so my kids wouldn't get stung. I guarantee you some Joe Blow just doing a job with a big name company wouldn't do that kind of stuff.

Stay away from Truegreen. They are notorious for hiring shucks techs and ghosting your lawn.

My dad used a local guy for a while. One time the guy accidentally sprayed the whole yard with roundup and the guy mysteriously wouldn't pick up his phone after that-fail!

That's sorta what I'm looking for... I just couldn't justify anything really expensive. All I really want is my front yard...I'm guessing it's 100' x 50'. So something like $100/mo would just be illogical. And like we've said above, I'd still be doing all my lawncare, I'm just wanting someone who'll do the sciency-chemical stuff.

I perform my own treatments but if you are looking for a good company then I would recommend Waynes. I have used them for Sentricon systems in my Home Building business and was very pleased with their service. I know the owner and his wife as I went to high school with them and they are good Christian people. An Alabama company owned by Alabama people, not a franchisee of a national company. A lot of the price depends on the size of your yard. Mine is around 2 acres, it ain't cheap to spray even if I do it, but it looks great and I don't have to do anything but cut it so I pay the man to do his thing with the spraying.

The good thing about Hunter is he is so small that he can't see in your windows if you were to be playing cowboys and Indians with the wife unit or your girlfriend while he is there. smile

I would highly suggest finding a trustworthy local lawn man. Back in the fall of last year during the drought, army worms were destroying my lawn. Scott's wanted me to sign a year contract for a lawn treatment plan, not just the army worm treatment, and couldn't be there to treat for 2 days. Estimate for army worm treatment was $75.

Local guy that does great work, as I had already seen by testimony of a co-worker's lawn, beat their price by $15, was no obligation to sign a contract, and came within 2 hours of my call. I ended up signing up for a yearly lawn treatment plan(fertilizer, pesticide, weed killer). Treatments are every other month and cost $50.

I spray grass as well...and the name on the truck doesn't mean much. It's the tech that matters. If they care about their work you'll have good results.

Only going up 5 bucks? If you have to put up with this kind of schitt from your customers I would think at least a 50% increase in price would be in line.

Sounds like you are doing a good job and your customers do like you also. Keep going strong.

Round ‘bout there

Several years ago we used one. I told them about different problems we had, they said they treated them, etc. We just used them one year (spring-summer-early autumn) to get a feel of how things might go. We were not terribly impressed for the money so we didn't sign up.

The following year, in late February or early March, I get a knock on the door one day and it's a guy from the same company.

"Hey, how're you doing?"

Good, good. We're in the neighborhood and I see that you have some trouble with weeds in your lawn. Could I let you know how we can help you with those?

"Considering you guys treated our lawn for about nine months last year, I wouldn't say that weeds showing up now is a ringing endorsement nor a reason I would give you a second chance. So, thanks for stopping by."

Maybe we didn't sign up for the super-duper series of treatments or we have SuperWeeds or something. But I can find better uses for our money, and I also don't give two rips what any neighbors think about a few clumps of wild onion or henbit.
