We leased 4500 acres in Marengo county on the river with 6 other guys. Best looking property you could ever see but there was no deer on the property. So I'm back looking again. I did lease the Mexico property that I posted on here again last year, I killed a 192 3/8 non typical and the rest of our group killed really nice ones also. I leased it again for this coming up year. 4,500 acres in Marengo Co on the river what most people would consider one of the top places in the state and not enough deer for you to keep the lease. WOW. What do you contribute the lack of deer to.
If you're gonna be stupid you better be tough.

For the guy that wanted to see the 192, go to Patrick Starnes outdoors and click on his face book page and you will see the non typical that's leading the Angadi Tournament. Sorry I don't know how to put pictures on this site. [img:center] https://imgur.com/a/oVd3V[/img]

Parts of south Marengo, south of Linden, deer populations are declining big time. I wish I knew the exact answer, but I believe it's simply a combination of hunting pressure (due to the area being a traditional hotspot), those hunters accustomed to shooting does and can't stop, and coyotes with hardly any substantial trapping in the area. If you guys hunted where I do, you would swear deer needed to be added to the endangered species list. It's been a rapid decline in the past 10 years - very alarming.

I feel like the sawyerville area is the same way. Havent even seen a deer crossing the road in so long i cant remember
We will burn that bridge when we get there

This place will fool you, if you ride the property it's the prettiest river bottom land you'll see with big green hayfields along the river. All the green fields are at least 5 acres in size with huge shooting houses. With a decent camp on it, but the deer are not there Did y'all ever do a camera survey before the season? That's crazy. Seems like folks on here always talk about giving a left nut for a lease in the black belt like that. Maybe they get shot to hell just as bad as anywhere else.

Black belt living on its 80's and early 90's reputation. Still pocket's of very good hunting. ASSUMING GC is accurate and every county had 100% reporting (it isn't close) look at the Black Belt numbers. Only Dallas is living up to its reputation. ...But gamecheck only counts dead deer, not live ones, and you're assuming the same number of folks hunting in those counties vs, say, Walker county. I bet there's twice as many people chasing 1/3 the deer in Walker county. So, not sure how not as many dead deer means anything. I probably means there are less people hunting them.
