If you're gonna buy one....dont skimp and be disappointed when you need it again. Go to Hill and pick out which Stihl you like best and be done with it.

The best one I've used is a husqvarna. Don't remember the model but it was above the rancher and homeowner series but not full blown logging. It had more rpm's than the homeowner series so it really zips through wood
Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

Go to Bailey's website, pick out which saw suits your needs, then price them out a various sources. The saws you find in a lot of big box stores are designed to last for 50 or so hours and are built on price points. At Baileys, they have them in homeowner and professional grade, and you can decide what your needs are there without even having to buy there. They DO have decent deals, though: https://www.baileysonline.com

Pfft - I use the cheapest gas and the cheapest oil and my husky works fine after sitting for 6 months. Well, I use the Husky oil and and non alcohol gas and they have been running for 30 years and crank after sitting for a year or a little more. They are however professional timber cutting models from when I cut timber for a living.

If you cut a lot of firewood, I would order a bow to put on the saw. It will save your back and it is easier to cut the wood up. They aren't made for cutting larger diameter trees, but for average/small trees they are fine. I thought bows were "illegal" due to injury and hazardous to use. That's what I've been told. I've never used one but my chainsaw exposure isn't that great. I've been told they are bad to kickback on you. Again just what I heard and have no concrete evidence of such. I have two saws. A 55cc husquvarna and a lightweight Stihl. Both saws are great. Never had any problems with them.

When I was in high school, there was a man killed south of Opp when the chain broke on his bow saw and nearly decapitated him. Both of the repair shops I use for my equipment will not allow a saw into the shop with a bow on it...they said their insurance disallows them.

A neighbor of ours was a logger, he told me once that if it wasn't a Stihl he didn't want any part of it. So I own 2 Stihl saws and haven't had any issues with them Me too. In the professional models both Stihl and Husky are good saws. Kind of a Ford Chevy thing. I found the Husky a bit more refined, better balanced and smoother running with better shocks to keep the vibrations down. It's nothing you would notice too much unless you put 5 gallons of gas a day through them like we use to.
