Well. I snuck into the woods about 5:30am this morning feeling pretty good about it. I was sitting off a rub/scrape line that is still all torn up and fresh and intersects a good trail that feeds out into some standing corn. I have seen a ton of deer here but just haven't had the opportunity to get a shot off.

The weatherman and ScoutLook completely missed the wind forecast where I was by 180 degrees. I was in a very flat and fairly open area - not in the mountains where it has a tendency to swirl around more. I don't understand it. They are accurate 9-10 times for this spot - at least as far as the wind is concerned. A north wind was forecasted but it started blowing almost directly out of the south right before daylight after I got setup - and continued until I left. It was still cold though.

About 5 minutes after daylight a deer start blowing like crazy about 50 yards from me in some thick stuff - straight down wind from me of course. I sat there till about 9:30am and left because I had to call in for a work meeting. Good luck, guys. I felt like they were going to be on their feet this morning. Maybe this afternoon... Snow is still holding off in Huntsville for the most part where I am.

Went this morning, saw a doe on the other side of the river and had a spike come down and eat privet under and around me off and on for probably about 45 minutes. Could have shot him 20 times and don't think I wasn't thinking about it since I still have not killed a deer this year and my freezer is empty. He got a pass though.

Oh yeah, got down just before it began to rain ice, not sleet, little balls of clear ice. By the time I got back to truck I had ice hanging from bow, string, arrows, everything.

Got a sad story. When I started up the creek toward my tree I thought I got a strong whiff of deer urine. Shortly after climbing as I said in my lftt I heard grunting but was unable to locate the source. Around 9:15 I looked over my left shoulder and saw tall white antlers moving through the edge of the thicket. He was steady walking with his nose on the ground. When he got to the trail where I walked in he paused and the crease of his shoulder was framed in a small hole in the brush. I was a little concerned with the limbs but I was sure it was a shot I could make.Everything looked and felt good. He made about a 20 yard sprint and just stood there for maybe 3 minutes then walked off. I gave him about 30 minutes and climbed down to find nothing. I searched for my arrow for about an hour to no avail. It had vanished. Then just to be safe I did a 2 hour grid search for the buck. No arrow, no blood, no hair, no nothing. I've been bowhunting a long time and I've missed deer before but it always bothers when I cant find the arrow. Sorry for the wordy post but I needed to vent.

Lawman, that sucks. I know it all too well. I did the same thing earlier in the year on the biggest doe I have ever seen - plus my freezer was empty. Maybe you'll get another shot at him! Good luck...

I know this story. It happened to me about a week ago. Find the arrow.
