I bought some land with a decent road system, but bad rutted out. I want to have them bull dozed out to remove ruts, widen, and put on lots of water bars on the steep parts. I'm concerned that if I have it done now I can't get anything to grow on them and they will just wash right back out. Should I wait till spring?

Rework them now. Spread wheat/rye and it'll slowly establish then when it warms up end of Feb it'll really get established before the spring storms roll in

Get lots of hay spread over the steep sloped areas, put some pensacola bahia in with the rye and it will be up in the spring. Stay off of it unless it is dry.

No problem building / re-shaping roads right now. They just need to be done right, and most importantly, stay off of them when they are wet (if you have the ability to control traffic).

A lot of roads get abused in the winter cause hunters can't stay off of them at the right time. I worry all weekend if it's wet or we get a Friday rain, and I just fixed a road. Cause deer hunters cause heck on wet winter roads.

It will just be me out there, so I will have total control over who drives on it. I plan to only drive my mini truck on them and even that as sparingly as possible when they are wet. I can't afford the time to be out there scraping them every month.

Also, I'm open to any suggestion on equipment operators who are experienced putting in roads the RIGHT way. St. Clair county.

You could always put rock or stone on the steep areas

Two roads diverged in the woods and I took the one with deep ruts, hills and mud.It may be bumpy but WHAT A RIDE!

Building roads in the winter = not good idea

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14

If you can wait, I would.

If not there are some grass mixes you can use.
