Glad they keep the jobs in the US.

I believe companies should be able to succeed without government interference and should be able to fail without a government parachute.

I'm torn.

I'm glad The Don negotiated some sort of deal that encouraged the owners of Carrier to keep that company stateside.

On the other hand, it's a little like socialism to "make" a privately held company do what the government wants it to do.

Ok that was weird. The 1st reply was about a cellular provider. My post was just being silly. If we are talking about the A/C company. I believe Carrier couldn't keep up with union wages, and remain competitive.

Exactly. I want us to keep the jobs but we can't individually penalize or reward private businesses. The govts role is not to pick winners and losers but to create an environment that makes it feasible for all businesses to prosper.

State's have been "rewarding" companies to do business in them for a long, long time and that's all that happened here, there was no federal "rewards" that I'm aware of.

If it takes a phone call from the president to nudge the companies to understand that working with the state to figure out how to stay doing business there is in their favor, then I'm all for it. About time we had someone that actually communicated with folks.

I haven't read enough about the actual deal to offer an opinion on it. It is my observation that we have a President-elect who seems to be putting more work in before he takes office than the current guy has done in the last 4 years. I also think he's putting more effort in than any politician would.

Some won't agree but I think the guy genuinely ran for the right reasons. He wants to make the world a better place for his kids and grandkids. He certainly didn't do it for the money.

No doubt about that. One of the main reasons that Mercedes is in Alabama now.

I agree completely until we threaten 35% punitive tariffs if they don't do what the president wants.

If we're talking about Cell Service:
My carrier is AT&T with a Wilson/Weboost 4G-X OTR amplifier. GF uses a 4G-X Drive. At camp we use a 7500 square foot coverage Wilson/Weboost 4G-X with a Yagi directional antenna. (Wiley piqued my interest in these folks - no better amplifier anywhere.)

If we're talking about Carrier, the heating and air component factory:
Their union boss just won't give any credit to Trump. He's biting the hand that feeds him. They can fold and go ahead and move operations to Mexico if that's his attitude. And I'll buy the product that suits ME based on price and reliability while he moans about no jobs. What a dick.

Very wise and is going to be the size of Texas before long. Damn that place is huge.

I think the Nissan plant over in Canton has got it beat right now though.

A US company should not be penalized and forced financially to move operations overseas. Whatever it takes to allow them to be competitive and remain in the US should be considered.

To put this another way, what options-considerations should a US company, that is forced to pay $10/hour wage rates, competing with a foreign company paying $5/hour be given? None, move overseas or be overtaken by the lower wage rates of the foreign company (no government intervention). Import tariffs equivalent to $5 an hour wage difference to allow the US company to be competitive or encourage the foreign company to relocate (Government intervention).

Trump needs to let the people at Carrier know it would be beneficial to them to let the head of the union move his position to Mexico.
