I got some wire wrapped in my blades and I need to flip my cutter on its side. I've got a front end loader with chain hooks but there's no good place to attach the chain on the cutter to lift up one side. I fount some bolt on mounts that will accept a clevis. My plan is to mount two of them on one side of the deck to I can easily lift and lean against a tree. Anybody got a better idea before I modify my cutter?

Can't you just get an edge of the bucket on the loader under it and lift that side?

Then you can chain it to the tree while you work on it to keep it from falling

Why is lifting it from the side the only method considered? Why not lift it from the rear where you have the frame for the dolly wheel to run a chain thru and lift it up? That would put the front end (square end) on the ground for more stability. I'd lift to up till perpendicular and go to work on it.

I firmly believe that a double gallows should be constructed on the East Lawn of The White House. Politicians who willfully and shamelessly violate their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America should be swiftly tried and, upon conviction, publicly hanged at sunup the day after conviction. If multiple convicts are to be hanged they can choose with whom to share the gallows or names shall be drawn from the hangman's hat to be hanged 2 at a time.

I could but it would be difficult to control it once it goes past vertical.

May be possible. I'll evaluate this method when I get back to the camp.

X2

I have cut a lot of stuff off of bush hog blades/shafts over the years, just buy lifting them with the tractor, and/or shortening the top link. Once lifted, place some kind of jack stand under it before working on it.

Wiley's method .

Or just lift it with the lift high as it'll go, set the rear on a steel saw horse or equivalent, crawl under and go at it . You should be able to sit Indian style under it toward the back. This is how I sharpen mine.

Well, we have no idea what type of bushhog, its size, if it's a batwing, etc.

Most are connected to tractor by pull tongue, or lift arm.

Is this a pull type, which is giving you trouble?

If not, disconnect from tractor, and connect to the frame at the 3 point arms on it, and lift it up from the front.

God Bless,

That's what I've done the last million times I picked up wire in the blades! That's also how I get to the blades with a grinder to sharpen them.

Pics needed of the bushhog to best answer your question.

Finally got photobucket to work. This is the best pic I have access to. FWIW, the three point pivots and attaches to the rear of the cutter with a chain. I might remove the three point and PTO shaft then lift from the rear wheel.

Back up on a trailer. Just stop before the tires hit the Dec so the cutter is about 3ft high and lay under it to cut all that out

This, or raise it all the way up with the tractor's hydraulics, then back up to a tree, pinning the bush hog up...set the brake on the tractor, and go to work.

Lots of good ideas. I'll update once I get back to the camp and work on it. Thanks to the members who responded.

Put your top link pin in the lowest hole on the tractor, shorten your top link all the way in and then raise the cutter as high as it will go. That's how I sharpen the blades on mine. You can get a lot of room at the rear by doing just that.

I sure hope you set the rear on something that will hold it, hook it to a chain hoist, tree or something.
