Same reason people name roads and food plots on hunting clubs. So you can talk about the buck you have on camera or have seen and people know what you're talking about. If you hunt the same property each year and run trail cameras it's the easiest way to keep up with individual bucks.

I'd be thankful that life is going so well that something so "stupid" as folks naming deer bothered me.

I am 2Dogs, I name big bucks, I'm married to a woman that names our vehicles. I guess we should go to a husband/wife retreat or a 12 step program.

I'm green enough in my hunting "career" that any deer that walks in front of me doesn't live long enough to get a name.

I am just now getting to where I can let a few walk. Now, with my 12 year old son with me. Every deer is in grave danger! I let him decide if he wants to shoot or not.

Got a new lease with a few bucks on camera. Probably gonna give them names just to know who we are talking about and where they have been spotted, if I ever see a deer!!

I agree. We name most of the bucks. It just makes sense so it's clear when we are talking about deer on our property .

A few weeks ago I visited a property, about 1000 acres, that would make some of you crazy. It's owned by an engineering group and has a million dollar lodge on it.
They bought it strictly to have a 1st class place for them and their guests to hunt. Huge plots, food planted year round. They've done an inventory of all the deer with game cameras and identified every deer using the property. 107 bucks and about 150 does. They brought in Dr Grant Woods to advise them. It's the most impressive place I've ever seen
In every shooting house they have laminated named pictures of every buck on the hit list. Some genetically superior young bucks aren't on the list, off limits.
Last year they killed 7 bucks. Put that in your pipe and smoke it

Naming roads and food plots is a way, especially on large properties, to have specific identifiers for hunters. "Go down the Pothole Road through the pines, take the second left on the Skidder Trail and then you'll be in the Jones Plot" can help someone not get lost or be able to call for assistance with more certainty.

Same reasoning for naming deer. "Don't shoot so and so" or "shoot so and so". If I bring a guest,I'm definitely showing him/her pics of what bucks he/she should be looking for or passing. Sorry, but we're not a "brown it's down" club and everyone can't score/age deer on the hoof as good as you or the OP can. The fact that you let this bother you is pretty telling. I forsee many roadrage incidents in your/OP's future.
