I came across Bear "Hunter" ?? Left hand recurve in a pawn shop. It's 45#, the weight that I want. He was firm on $150. I offered $100 but he wouldn't go. Is it worth $150 you think?
I got a 39# Samick but I worry about that being enough to get good penetration on deer.

I'd look real close and careful for a twisted limb. Pawn shop bows are notorious for that. String it and check, draw it and let back down and check. Walk lightly.

39# is enough. Mine is around 60# and it is overkill IMO. But, its what your comfortable with. Like Fur said, check the limbs!

Stripe brings up another point. A good broadhead weight makes up for a lot. I'll take weight/momentum over speed any day. A 39# bow will get to a deer the same way a 70# wheel bow, but not as fast. The most important factor is the momentum after it hits

I killed a 183# 9 point on 10/21/16 with a 40# Samick Sage, probably drawing in the 38# range at my draw length. Well, the shot was at 5 yards from a treestand, so I had gravity helping too! Actually got about 16" penetration using 190 grain Simmons Interceptor broadheads.

There's a "cult following" amongst Bear folks, and some of the prices on certain models have soared (apparently); but ya, check the bow very carefully before purchasing... IMO, the Samick TD bows are the best bargain going...
