My son lives in Texas and picked up a lease from Rayonier about 560+ acres, a lot of hardwoods and pines and a couple creeks. He says it looks great. He is looking for help with lease next year because its just him and a friend and they got lease this year for a fraction, due to an error on Rayonier but will be $10ac next year. I was thinking about going in on it but cant seem to find out the timing of the rut, which could be between Sept-Dec. Anyone know about quality of Bucks in the area, or timing of rut?

Shoot, if I end up in Houston next year after I graduate which is a good possibility, I may hit you up.

Texas is a BIIIG state, You have to tell what county its in or what city is close to the lease. Since you mentioned pines, I assume its in East Texas. Yes tge deer have big antlers in Texas, not so much on body size.

Tyler is 60 miles or so due west of Shreveport. I'm sure there are decent numbers but probably not the racks most people think of when they think of Texas. Probably Alabamaish type deer.

Looks like peak of rut is around Nov 12. I could get a 5 day non resident for $48 and go hunt it with him.

Don't think you can kill deer w/ that license. Think you have to get the $300ish one to get deer tags.

In that part of Texas numbers are good but like JAT said, the bucks aren't huge like other parts of the state. More like Alabama bucks. This info from a friend that lives in the state. Well, I ad libbed the Alabama part based on his description. 10 Pt. with an 18" inside spread would be huge. 8 pt 15" spread is a good one.

Lord, please help us get our nation straightened out.

No matter where you go the bodys are small. Its odd because in Mexico buck can run over 200 lbs.

Kiss it goobers, countys in Texas are huge. Some have ag areas.
My brother killed a 156" buck near Crocket Texas. EASTERN TEXAS.
He was hunting on a cattle farm.
