I got a 2 pound sirloin from Piggly Wiggly this week for 3.99 a pound and it was an excellent steak. The Pig usually has the best meat in our area.

But the best beef I've found lately is at the little grocery store in Maplesville. I don't know where they get it, but it's great.

Do yourself a favor and go to Sam's Club and either get the Ribeyes or the Fillet Mignon and never look back. Those two are the best steaks I get with any type of regularity. The rest of the stores are rather hit or miss.

Anytime you can ship a piece of beef across the damn globe and it's cheaper than US beef, you got a problem.

On a side not, I was watching the Cal - USC game last night and the commentator was talking about a small player for Cal and stated "He's a small guy but he's tougher than a 3 dollar steak" Coors' original through the nose kinda stings.

Congress repealed the COOL labeling requirements in December last year. Grocers are no longer required to tell you where your steaks or any meat is grown. Another step towards globalization. Do yourselves a favor and ask your butcher. If it is Tyson, Excel, Swift, CAB, Creekstone, Sterling Silver or National it is American Beef. Imported beef is crap and is most likely what you will get if you buy it from a guy in a parking lot!

I learned something new today.I have yet to receive any information on this from our meat office on this.It doesn't change anything for me though.I will continue to post the C.O.O.L labels for our meats to ensure the integrity of our business. We have received the readers choice award in our area for 16 years running with all sorts of competition surrounding us so I won't go backwards on anything that might endanger that.Thank you for the info.

He is the butcher..

If you know him, please tell him aldeer is talking about what a great job he does. smile

Even their hamburger has a great flavor and I notice a big difference from it and what I buy anywhere else.
