Was hunting Wheeler the other day and had a large Bobcat circle my perimeter at about 80 yards. The Bobcat circled me twice and he stayed in sight for about 45 minutes. About 1 hour after he left a pair of Bucks started my way and got within 82 yards according to my Range Finder, but they locked up for about 5 minutes and then Blew and Flagged leaving the area. I had the wind in my face and it was at their backs. Is this a typical reaction to the scent of the Bobcat or maybe something else? Thanks.

Dang right it is, nothing will put them in high gear like a cat. I've had deer up wind take off like stuck with a hot stick for no reason , then in a couple of minutes out comes ol Bob.

Uncle saw a bobcat walk out into a food plot on a 4 pt. The 4pt. kept his eyes on the cat but never really disturbed him off his browsing. They both tolerated each other.

I had a coyote spook deer out of my field. I thought I was about to see some Discovery channel stuff go down with 2 fawns out there.

I almost only hunted close to where I live last year and saw plenty of bobcats, and even witnessed one chasing a fawn. Anytime I saw deer running real fast, I saw bobcats shortly after.

I wish wheeler would allow predators like that to be killed. I saw 8-10 coyotes last year and 3 bobcats out there. One time had a pack of 3 coyotes circle around me almost right before dark. That was a great feeling knowing they were close when leaving. haha

I've seen deer nearly lose their stuff over a large orange tabby cat (one of my spots backs right up to a neighborhood). I'd imagine a bobcat sends them for the hills. They definitely didn't like ole fat orange house cat, found it kind of funny myself.

Last year I had a doe start blowing not once or twice but over and over. I thought "what the heck there's no way she smelled me?". After a couple of minutes a bobcat emerges out of the tree line and cuts through the corner of the field. The doe is trailing at about 40 or 50 yds blowing the whole time. She followed that cat for several hundred yards at least blowing the whole way.

Saturday I had some does come in to feed actually down wind of me but they never picked me up. They went the opposite direction and I didn't see them anymore. 30 min before last light another solitary deer started blowing at what I guessed was about 100 yds. The wind was variable but he was in the one direction where it really hadn't blown so I'm certain he wasn't blowing at me. It was coming from the ridge across from me which was covered up with 10 year old pines. On the far side of the pines was a very large field covered in broom sage. I'm pretty sure this was a bedded buck that picked up a yote or cat that was somewhere in that sage. I know he didn't smell me because a couple minutes after that I heard him crack a limb or something as he was headed out but he was coming closer. Never saw him but I do know where I will set up next time I hunt that area. I'm pretty sure I know exactly where he was bedded and exactly the route he took out of there which is his same route he will use whether a predator is involved or not.

Several years ago during the January rut I was about to draw down on a nice eight point right at dark when a pack of yotes started up about 75 yards away from us.That deer fuzzed up with his ears laid back and stiff legged walked straight to those coyotes.I sat there till at least 10 minutes after dark and never heard those coyotes again.Behavior like that was a first for me.

I've seen more deer run coyotes and bobcats off than run from them. I've also watched several coyotes trot across a field full of deer with nothing more than a somewhat alert stare out of the deer until the coyote is gone. Same thing with cats. I haven't had many actually scare a deer. That has been a very rare occurrence. It has happened a few times, but not near as often as I've seen deer just continue their normal routine.

Same here except replace bobcat with a yard dog.

I can't ever remember adult deer taking flight when a Coyote comes along, they become nervous and attentive. However, I remember seeing two Bobcat encounters , one where two huge cats were together, that sent deer running like they were on fire.

But also, I saw deer run like they were on fire on Friday when the wind knocked pinecones out of the trees.

I've seen deer walking towards a bobcat in a field on several occasions. The deer never spooked, but they did run the bobcat off one of those times.

I was hunting in the mountain I hunt last year on november 8th. At around thirty minutes before dark the coyotes start up down the mountain in the bottoms. Two minutes later, the buck I was hunting came up the mountain in a hurry onto the bench I was on. 53 yards was as close as he got. Big wide 8 point was Snow White antlers. He stood around for about ten minutes, then went up a ridiculously steep bluff above me towards the next bench. Shortly after that seven does did nearly the same thing. I figure they were getting away from those yotes.

About 10 years ago, I had a bobcat walk along just inside the edge of a greenfield I was hunting. At the time I had a personal vendetta against Cats, so I parked him right there. He lay on the far edge of the field and I had a light wind in my face. About 10 minutes after I shot, 2 does came in along almost the same path as the cat. They fed around on the field for 20 minutes and although they walked downwind of it several times, they never left. They did appear a bit nervous for the first several minutes, but a few minutes later, one of them grazed less than 5 yards downwind from it. There is no way that they didn't smell the nasty critter, because he stunk up the bed of my truck as I hauled his butt back to camp.

I've had bobcats around a feeder trying to catch squirrels and bucks came in and paid them no attention at all. Does always either blow and stomp around or run them off.

Interesting, and just another fact stating you never know how deer will relate to a predator. Every encounter I've had with deer/yotes result in the deer fleeing. In my experience, hogs will do the same thing to a deer...which is normally empty a field when they come out.

With that said, I've had a matriarch doe put a bobcat up a tree and keep it there while three yearlings fed. Wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes and even have it on film. One of the coolest encounters I've ever seen in the woods.

Last year before rifle season opened I was in Paint Rock area and had a yote come in. Watched him circle around me while waiting to get land owner permission to kill it. Next thing I know I see deer come off the mountain and the yote then chases them away. Right then I get the approval to kill him. Sad thing was it was to late and he was out of range.
