Just sitting in the ground blind this morning, enjoying the peace and quiet of bow season, when what do a hear? A lone rifle shot ringing out in the distance...sometimes I wonder why I even bother. Yeah maybe somebody saw a coyote... while just on a walk with his rifle. This is my 3rd season bow hunting and this is why I feel like I haven't been able to kill anything. And possibly why many people stop hunting. Is discouraging to go by the rules and do it right when so many bubbas out there dont. Rant over.

I am in Cahaba WMA now and have heard shots within 500 yds frorm 3 diff guns and directions in last 20 minutes

Lots of legitimate reasons you might a gun shot. Just keep hunting it doesn't have a thing to do with why you haven't killed anything. ^^^^^^^

A lot of people don't understand why we have a bow season or just don't care. forgive me, but its not the reason you haven't kolled yet. The main reason is probaly where you are hunting. There are a lot of variables you must consider to beat the odds. Stand position, food source, wind, pressure, scent, just to name a few.
A deer is a live creature and they don't make it easy. Being on a hot food source is probably the best way to kill one. If theres a lot of pressure on the stand position is more important. Be patient, your shot will come, then its up to you. Good luck, hunt safe

I just know where I am and the people that direction. I used to see deer alot in multiple areas. But now not so much. Yeah could be a combination of things. Like that crazy disease where their back straps and antlers fall off. That one gets a lot of dear around here.

I'm about to check the scope on my ML and 308 off the back porch....Letting the cove sleep til 9 I'm sure the hunting club in the head of the cove and the mtn in front of the house will be thinking the same thing.

You haven't killed a deer because someone a long way off shot a gun. Could have been a guy letting his son or daughter shoot a can. Might have shot a snake. Could have shot a deer. No one knows.

I agree...could be anything. I've walked out back and capped a yote right before dark and thought to myself...."I wonder how many folks are assuming right now that someone just shot one illegally?" I don't even think but about half the gun shots we hear during gun season actually result in a dead deer. People shoot for all kinds of reasons.

I shot at the neighbors dogs once and killed a deer an hour later sitting on the ground, with a 30-30 at 20 yards. I was watching a white oak that was getting hammered. Find the hot food source and go to work..

When I first started hunting the delta, I got out of the boat closer to the shooting range than I thought. Somebody shot a high powered rifle through one of them 16" steel pipes. Bout jumped out my dang stand

If you sat there out 365 days of the year you would probably hear a rifle shot over 300 of them. Sure there are abusers out there, but not as many as we like to assume.
