How much does the clear cut affect the travel patterns of deer? We clear cut about 120 acres and the deer used to always travel in and through a decent size green field that bordered a creek. All of the trees around were cut except for the 10 yard line of trees between the creek and the field. Don't really have the time to drive 3 hours south to scout so seeing yalls thoughts on will the deer still hug the creek down that line of trees or any tips for bow season there would def be appreciated...

Cool thanks for the replies guys....yeah I know I wish I had time to scout it to find a good white oak and I may just have to sacrifice a morning to scout honestly...it was an awesome spot before we cut it but didn't really have a choice

You would be a lot better off finding some acorns during bow season. Hunting a clear cut with a bow is normally aggravating, you see a lot of deer, but most aren't in range. Maybe. But, I'd be scouting the clear cut every morning & evening & seeing how the deer are moving into & across it. We clear cut some land roughly this size & within a day or two of hunting it, it was game on. Although the deer did meander through, once in the clear cut, it was obvious within 1-2 sittings how they were getting into the clear cut. Hopefully there's still a tree (or ground blind cover) you can get in & ambush 'em. Deer in a clear cut are ducks in a barrel, even with a bow.

It doesnt get much better than watching a deer come in from about 300 yards into bow range.

I hunt the edge of a clear cut at my dads and see a lot of deer. It will be a second year cut this season so I'm anxious to see if the hunting improves any.
They just finished cutting at our club (roughly 150 acres) but with all the drains and creeks its is cut up into 30-50 acre blocks... Still a lot of trees and I'm thinking its gonna be really good hunting this year. A couple of really good funnels with a lot of transitions in cover

Ive had great luck on the edge of clearcuts. Find where the acorns are dropping along th edge and set up with in 25 yards.
Ive had a lot of bucks come in daylight eating acorns along the edges of clearcuts for sure. If there is any type of road along one edge..I look for the tracks in the dust, or where the trails come out from the woods into the cut.

I'd try to note the specific trails deer were moving into/out of the cutover on and then plan to get setup on one of them for the afternoon/next morning.
