I just let them get further away so I don't have to think about it, but 2 yards equals my 40 yard pin

15 yd pin would be good from 10-20 25 yd pin would be good from 20-30 35 yd pin would be good from 30-40
Double check this with Shaw but when I used multi pin sites that is what I did

My top pin is dead on at 0-30 yards. I'm the same way but up to 25. If a deer is right under me I might shot an inch low but generally my top pin is good at any range up to 25.

My top pin is dead on at 0-30 yards. I've heard of that idea before, which was part of the reason for my post. My pins are set at 10, 20, 30 & 40 but if a single pin can be good out to 30, then why have more than one or two pins?

My pins are set at 10, 20, 30 & 40 but if a single pin can be good out to 30, then why have more than one or two pins? When I shot a 3 pin sight, I had a slower bow. My pins were set at 20, 30, and 40 yards. With my new bow I could stretch my first pin to 30 yards with the others being at 40 and 50. I have a single pin type sight now that stays set at 30 yards for most situations. However, I still think I might prefer a 3 pin sight.

At 10 yards, holding low will do the job. When you shoot 5 yards and under is where it gets tricky and you have to start using 30 and 40 yard pins. You'll have to practice it to see which you'll need to use because it's different for everyone. The distance your sight is from the peep and your peep height will determine what you'll have to use.

If a deer is that close and you are in a tree stand...is it still an ethical shot shooting straight on top of them? Serious question. I have once won't do it again. Broke her down right there and I shot my other 4 arrows into her trying to finish her off. One of them was a field point. I had gotten desperate. That was the most god awful yelling I've ever heard

If a deer is that close and you are in a tree stand...is it still an ethical shot shooting straight on top of them? Serious question. If you're capable of making that shot, it's very ethical. I killed a 12 pt several years ago at 2 steps from my tree. I shot it in the spine between the shoulder blades. I've killed several other bucks at less than 10 yards.

Sonny, when you say holding low, I assume you're meaning holding low on the top, or closest, pin in the sight? That was my initial thought if the deer was horizontal to the line of,sight. If he was vertical, I don't suppose it matters quite so much so long as it's lethal and not a gut shot

Yes, holding low with the top pin. I try to avoid those straight down shots because with that angle it shrinks the vital area and can make it difficult to get both lungs. If you take that shot, the best position for the deer to be is head on with the head down. At this angle aim for the base of the neck. If you don't take out the spine, the arrow will exit through the brisket.

If they're right under me I normally jump off the stand and spear them with my arrow That's too much work in my mind, plus I have really bad knees, the drop from 23' hurts them too much so I just take my really heavy knife and drop it point down onto the spine as it walks under.

I only have one pin, 0-30, its about getting one close for me and making every shot lethal. I lost several with mechanicals, No more for me. I have seen or heard everyone crash since I started only taking shots I was sure would kill quickly, with a fixed broadhead.
