I'm present. Just got back from Marion junction making some final preparations for opening day. So damn dry up there I'm not even bothering with a food plot. There's plenty of acorns though.

I have gotten to really know several fellow brothers/sisters during these contests. Those that do not participate are really missing out on a treat.

We need one more to like Team Droptine which will give us 4 and a majority and let's send it in.

Team droptine is cool with me. I actually have a couple to hunt this year with droptines. I've been on this site a long time and participate in these contest. I'm usually good for solid buck. I'll be hunting Iowa, Illinois, Kentucky and Bama.

I'm usually good for killing something. Ive killed 3 every year for the last 10 years. Just not sure what it will be yet. Ha. I layed off on shooting does last year but that won't happen this year. In lower Alabama I'm a meat hunter but up in Dallas county I'm hunting biggun. Good luck everybody.

We had a very unusual year last year on our lease. I lost my job of 38 years and it took almost a year to find something else. Deer sightings were down considerable and with my job I was totally distracted and had a dismal season.

All that is past me now and I can concentrate and have fun again. The last 4 years I have killed a nice buck each year with the exception of last year. Shot a really nice 10 point but couldn't find him. Maybe he will be back this year. I am out of deer meat now and plan on shooting the first doe or the first decent buck i see.

That'll be awesome. Surely a piebald would be a +20 pt deer.

I'm surprised they don't do a predator point. Like a coyote is +5 pts per yote.

Go to Aldeer Pictures and Trail Cams and follow the instructions. Very simple. If I can do it anybody can smile

If you can't figure it out, e-mail them to me and I will post later today. Got to get ready for church now. My e-mail address is svdbygrace77@att.net

I bow hunt but prefer the gun. Not real sure about hunting next Saturday with it being 80 degrees

I hunt near Salem which is about half way between Phenix City and Auburn.

That's some prime area for some big deer.

I agree with the 80° temps but the east wind will benefit me.

Any of y'all hunt them longbeards? I personally don't and haven't tried but we've got over 50 turkeys running my property in blount county. Would like to have any of y'all come out and show me the ropes on turkeys.

I too want to learn the ropes of turkey hunting but have gotten frustrated trying to figure it out.. I have invited a friend who I go to church with to come go with me. He has killed many before but the three times we went, were unable to locate any and walked around for a couple hours and called it a day.

Well guys, it's almost here. I wish our team the best of luck this weekend. I learned the hard way 2 years ago about wearing a harness, after a trip to the hospital and dealing with a broken ankle for weeks. If you don't have a harness I have 2 extra I will ship to you if needed. Let's kick some whitetails boys

Got word the other day that our lease is going to be thinned heavily on about 85 acres of a 450 acre tract. These are huge mature pines. Are planning on getting in next week and may only take 1 possibly 2 weeks to complete.

Got us some points on the board. They sure we're moving this afternoon. It was by the grace of God I found this deer. She had run almost in a complete circle and I was walking back to the truck when I stumbled upon her.

Thanks. I was heading to a spot I always bow hunt at some point in time during the season. On one side is a small field with sawtooth oaks in it and on the other is a small power line with a lot of laurel oaks that are loaded this year. Can only hunt it on a south or east wind. I eased on in there at 2:30 and there was a small 4pt with a doe standing under one of the laurel oaks. It took me about 30 minutes to crawl to my spot on the ground. They both bedded up just out of my sight but I knew they could see me if I was standing up. I finally got situated and at about 4:30, a big gust of wind came up and I could hear a bunch of acorns hitting the ground. I waited about a minute and then hit the grunt twice. It wasn't another minute then here they come up to the tree. I drew back and was shaking so bad I couldn't get the bow back in time. I had to sit there and watch em for a minute until she finally stepped in the shooting lane again. This time I was able to get the bow back with no problem and it was a 20 yard shot. I hit a small dead vine that was in they way. It was about the size of a small stirring straw. It was big enough to deflect it down just a tad but not enough to miss her. She ran 75 yards and didn't have much of a blood trail at all. I had just about given up looking for her when I decided to take the long way back and she was layed up in the middle of a dried up slough. I was tickled to get her. First one I ever killed and recovered on opening day of bow season.

That's awesome. My deer have all of the sudden decided to go completely nocturnal since Friday so I'm trying a spot I set up today. A lot of deer poop acorns

Got set up in my climber yesterday evening. Had 2 small basket rack bucks come in together and they eventually walked off after 30 mins of muching on the acorns. Had a pack of does trot down the ridge beside me at about 40 yards, couldn't get a clear shot. It was a good opening weekend of seeing deer, but the bucks were too young for me to take. Now if one of them slickheads would've been 10 yards closer it would have been game over. I've got some land right 5 mins down the road from work im going to check on this evening and hopefully be able to slide in there one or two days this week.

Well boys, looking like i'll be in the stand Friday and Saturday all day. The temps look good, moon phase looks good. Checked on a spot at a property I haven't been to in a couple of months and it paid off. beaten down deer trails all through a hardwood bottom where I hung my lock on at several months ago. Didn't get too close, don't need my scent in there.

My hunting buddy went this morning to our lease and said it got so hot around noon, that he loaded up and went to the house. By the way, he has to drive 140 miles just to hunt and usually hunts all day to make it worth the drive. But today, said it was so hot and the bugs were terrible, he just had to leave. SISSY!!!

I thought about going tomorrow afternoon but its going to be 90 or better for the high so I will stay at home and shoot my bow.

Still hoping to go Saturday.

I'll probably give it a try in the morning on one of our local management areas. Not expecting much, never do out there, but ya never know.

I drive a school bus. Plan on getting home Friday morning after morning route about 8:30 AM, loading up my climber, machete, and lopping shears and heading to the woods to hang my stand for Saturday.

Went this morning and hunted a hardwood bottom. Sat from Sun up to about 10 and saw nothing. Moved about 200 yards north west and stayed to 11:30 but again saw nothing. When driving out, two bucks crossed the road in front of me. One was really nice and heavy. Saw 9 does cross here last year. May scout this spot out and see if I can find me a try to hunt next time we have a NNW wind.

I've found a lot of good places to hunt unintentionally just like that.

I drive a school bus and get finished with my morning run at 7:25 AM. Thought about going hunting this morning for a couple hours but had a health fair at work i needed to attend.

Looks like Saturday morning is the next time I can go.

Checked cam and morning activity has been constant. Hope the wind is right and I should be able to get us some points in the morning. Best of luck to u guys

Went Saturday morning and hunted the edges of where a hardwood bottom and pines meet. Been in stand about 10 minutes and hear one blowing southeast of my set up. I was upwind from it and far enough away it couldn't see me. I am set up about 150 yards from a dirt road and I see and hear about 25 members of a local college track team come running by being followed by one of their vans.

Needless to say, I saw nothing. Started to move and get deeper into the woods but as mentioned in an earlier post, am full of cold and coughing and didn't want to get too worked up and sweaty.

I can't catch a break with these dang deer. Only if I could fling an arrow over 50 yards I would be good. Too many acorns where I'm at. Can't predict which tree their gonna be under. I'm giving my properties a break until gun opens up. Not many properties hunted that's near me so hopefully deer won't get gun shy.

Already put in vacation day for Friday. With temps dropping down I have to get in the woods. Haven't stepped foot on a property that's only 27 acres but sets in hardwoods bordering a wide powerline. Always deer here but the does are very smart. Have to hunt the wind right here or you wont see a thing.

My buddy went today and had two blow at him and shot at a coyote. As mentioned earlier, the loggers showed up this morning and started cutting. They said it may take 2 to 3 weeks before their gone.

I have a loc-on in the bottom where a creek runs through the hardwoods. Haven't stepped foot in there since I hung the stand. Haven't checked game cam in there in almost 3.5 months. Passed up on some good solid bucks last year at that property. Hopefully when I wake Friday morning the wind will be right and if not then I will go to my other property depending on wind direction.

Glad to finally hear someone else on the same page as me about hunting pressure. I love to hunt. But I can constantly disturb the areas I do hunt so I have a whole bunch of land I frequent. Including public land. Most public land down here has less pressure than the hunting clubs.

Got called into work this morning but about to hop in the truck and head out now. Wind is perfect. Ready to be in the stand, pull the card and check out photos while in the stand. Rifle season will be here soon

I killed a 9pt while in Iowa. He's definitely not what I went up there for. I think my brain short cicuited. I put inches of bone on this deers head he obviously did not have.

I'm in IL until Friday trying to get it done here. If not I'm headed to KY for their opening week of rifle season.

Need some cold weather bad up this way. These mild to hot temps have day time movement subdued.

Congrats on the doe Slippin!!

Didn't make it to the woods this weekend due to kids playing soccer and Sunday afternoon spent the evening with the wife who has been working 10 to 12 hours a day for the past several weeks.

Am off Friday and hope to hunt then possibly Saturday.

I haven't been in the stand a while and it's driving me crazy. I'm manager for my father in law and have to oversee 2 stone quarries and 40+ Hispanics and with this drought were unbelievable busy. I've got my vacation in and got everything set up for next weekend and then it's on.

Checked my cameras today and we've got a lot of does coming into our dirt fields every morning, but I'm taking my fiancé whose never shot a deer with me opening morning to hopefully let her get her first kill.

Got a doe this morning. 3 came in about 8:00 AM and I took the largest. she weighed 102 pounds on the hoof. Ran about 100 yards before she went down. Blood was everywhere. Ray Charles could have tracked her.

Checking in guys. I killed another 9 pt and a 11 pt in Illinois. I'll get the 11 posted up in a few days. Here are few pics for the time being of the 3 bucks so far this season.

I hunted yesterday evening, killed a coyote on the way to the stand and took it back to the truck and got settled into my ground blind. About 1 month before season I cut a 20 yard wide break in the hardwoods where I had "planned" to plant a green field. I've gotten so many pictures of mature deer off this camera during day light I couldn't believe. Seen does and right before dark a small 4-5 point stepped out and was munching on acorns in the dirt strip. I set up a new stand on the same property on a beaten down trail on the side of the ridge along a old property line fence.

Is anybody else hunting or got plans to hunt over the Thanksgiving holiday? I'm going in the morning and will hunt to about 1:00 PM. Then help the wife cook and celebrate with the family Thursday. Gotta work Black Friday at Home Depot and plan to hunt again Saturday morning.

Hunted yesterday and saw 11 does, a spike and a 5 point all within 1.5 hours starting at 7:00 AM CSt.
As mentioned earlier, our lease is being cut and these deer were seen about an hour after the guys fired up their machinery. 4 came from where the men were working but the others came from the opposite direction.
Not sure if the machinery had anything to do with them being up and moving.
I wanted to pop another but none gave me the opportunity.

What is the deal on no more posts? I know I have been lax and complacent also.

I am back at work and I haven't hunted much since returning home from my Midwest hunts. I'm in south Bama so keeping the pressure off my little place until they start rutting or something shows up I'm interested in hunting.

Went yesterday morning. Saw a small 10 pt very young maybe 2 or 2.5 years old. About 30 minutes afterwards, a nice 6 point came out with a messed up rack. Cow horn on one side that had a small sticker off to the side and the other rack was a mangled mess of horns. Really cool looking. After letting him walk, I wish now that i had popped him. He was a larger deer than the 10 point and a little older . I would guess 3 or 3.5 years old.

I haven't seen much but does lately. Planning on heading to one of my known big buck holes Thursday morning though....as long as nothing drastic happens.

Went this last weekend to my buddys club in Chilton county and killed a 125# doe. Seen plenty of bucks, just haven't caught any shooters yet.

Saw grand-pa this morning but couldn't stop him or turn him my way.
If I had set up same place as yesterday things may have been different if buck fever didn't strike.
Maybe tomorrow.

Seen more deer this season than any of the previous 5 years I have hunted here. As mentioned earlier, we had about 100 acres clear cut and we think it has bunched up the deer in the remaining acreage.

Saw 2 really nice shooters last week but was unable to get on them. I have a few more days off until I return to work Thursday. If only this rain would stop today!!!

I haven't hunted much guys since I got back from the Midwest. It very hard to get motivated to hunt Bama after hunting up there when you are a trophy hunter. I got out of my Dallas Cty lease so that slowed me way down on hunting here.

I'm hoping something shows up on my little personal lease that I'd be interested in hunting. So far the only two mature deer that I have on camera have both vanished. The rut in my are should start to pick up in a few weeks and maybe something new shows up that will light a fire under my rear end. If not I've had a blessed season with the 3 I have killed so no complaints there.

Good luck to you guys that are hunting!!

I would probably feel the same way Squeaky. I had a beautiful tall 9pt on camera last year but nothing that really gets my blood pumping as of yet. I hunt in Dallas County too a lot. How old do you think this buck is? He looks mature to me. [img:left]http://[/img]
This one may get a pass if he lets me get a good look at him. Pretty sure he's only 3.5

8 point weighed 150 pounds. Had two broke horns if you look close enough at skull cap. Had issues with my camera and this was the best one I got. I had no paper for a sign so he may not be counted in contest. Tried taking selfie but camera would not function properly.

Congrats man. Just try to get a selfie with the same head and rack today and you should be good I would think. I remember I had to write on a paper towel one time. It is hard to remember to do when you kill one.

Been passing up a lot of good 2-3 year olds here lately. Hoping to get a shot or glimpse of a couple bigger and more mature deer I have on my properties. Hopefully this hot weather doesn't mess up the hunting.

Went Saturday and found a couple new scrapes big enough for two grow adults to fit in. Off tomorrow and going in the A.M. Maybe I can see one of those big boys.

I have PM'd JeffPIke and CRKelly. They have both been non existent since this contest started.
We really need for them to help out.
This has been my biggest beef with this contest. Folks that join and never participate in these discussions which makes you wonder if they are hunting and trying to help the total team score.

Do any of you guys know them well enough to shoot them a PM and see if you can nudge them to participate/shoot a doe/shoot a wallhanger?

This hot weather doesn't help me out much trying to get the big boys from moving nocturnally. Praying for colder weather and hotter does.

Slippin I think we are the running for a participation trophy only. Sounds like one of the other guys sent the MIA teammates a PM with no reply. I have been stuck are the past 16 days and still have 6 more days left.

We got about 26 points pending from my and slippins bucks which would put us in the top 5. If those non existent members would man up and help, we still got a chance. I am hoping to improve on my 8 pointer over the next few weeks if this weather would cooperate.

I'm hoping for one more buck. The one I'm after is a big 8pt. Won't help our score but ya never know what will step out this time of year. The rut hasn't even thought about starting down here in Baldwin County. They should be stupid by next week though.

I have seen a 10 and another that could easily be a 12 as big as his rack and body was. Only saw Grandpa for about 10 seconds.

Ours should get cranked up pretty soon for those that didn't get bred the first go around.

I figured passing up on young bucks would sooner or later pay off but it's not looking like it.

Deertracker your buck will not count in contest according to the rules if the above pics are all you have. You need something with the date written on it or a pic with you and the deer. I haven't looked at the pic you posted in the entry thread so you may have the correct pic.

Deertracker unfortunately your deer is not going to count. I have added the rule below. If you kill another one just do one of the two picture requirements below and it will count.

4. Post the required pictures. CAPES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED! The photo must show at least the entire front half of the deer or more showing the head attached to the body. Skull plates, mounts, or caped out deer will not be accepted! You have one of two ways to enter your deer. A picture of yourself with the deer with the points all showing or you may take a picture of the deer with SOMETHING (Paper plate/Piece of paper/Newspaper with the date readable) with the date, antler points if a buck, and team name/number.

I had phone/camera problems and was by myself when I shot it. Hopefully his big brother will drop by and I know what happened to the phone and can get a picture this time.

I'm still hunting and killed a mature 6 pt the other day. He's not going to upgrade my 11 pt kill.

Haven't seen any shooters during daylight where I'm at. Going to a private farm in cullman this weekend that my cousin has me set up on a good one. Let's hope they feel frisky this weekend.

Just shot the big 9 I've had on camera lately that I've been chasing. I got the pic with a plate. Just need someone to post for me

A lot of guys posting their buck kills don't have a plate or anything. Just pictures. Will their kills be accounted for?

Went today for the last day and saw 7 does and 2 coyotes. Tried getting a shot on the coyotes but they saw me about the same time I saw them and off they went!
Looking for Grand Paw or Big Brother today but only the nannies were to be seen. With both freezers full, I give them a pass till next year.

I really enjoyed those of you that participated. It was good getting to know you a little bit better.

I shot at the biggest 8pt I ever had the chance to shoot at in Covington County on the 9th. I blew it though. All I found was a bunch of white hair. Then the guys on the property next to me shot him that evening. He was a 130-140" 8pt. Don't know if they found him or not. They just said they had good blood and was going to go look for him

Makes me sick to my stomach just reading your story. Great season guys. I've got a lot more to learn and a new property.
