If you think about it, Barnett's decision to leave makes sense. Transfer, take the rest of the season to learn their plays and get settled in and then compete for a starting position next season. If he waits then it would hurt his chances of competing next Spring.

I don't blame him for transferring. It probably isn't all football related either. I'm sure he wants to be close to his fiance and family. The kid probably wasn't happy and losing out to a true freshman just made the decision easier for him.

If he still has to sit out next year, it's dumb and weak as hell to quit on the team and his self during the season.

Only good reason to transfer would be for a academic reasons. He had a chance to train under one of the best quarter back coaches, better understand defensive schemes, workout with one of the best strength training programs, be apart of a playoff or national championship team, and was backing up an 18-19yr old running qb that could easily get hurt at any point. He should've waited til after the season ended.

I think since he has taken a redshirt year already and is enrolled and played some this year then he will sit out next year. Will be a junior when he is eligible to play again.

He was given a lot of playing time this year and I think they expected him to be the guy for the job. In the times that he played, he clearly wasn't as good as Hurts. I think he's a good player and will develop into a really good player, but Hurts is a much better player right now with even more upside potential. Stupid move to leave like this though...

there was talk of him leaving before the season even started if he didnt get the starting job. well they let him start then pulled him early. IMO it was just to try and keep him there in case Hurts was to get hurt.

He's trying to enroll in juco so he only has to sit out 4 games next year.

I don't read anything about number of games. There might would have been an exception if he had not participated. I think he will sit next year unless an exception is made and Saban gives permission.

I've been reading sbo1971 post since the season started on his quarterback observations between Hurts and Barnett. And I agree with him on the passing between the two. I do believe that Hurts will get better with time so that the receivers run under the ball instead of having to stop. When he gets that part corrected on his timing plus his athletic ability he is going to be a heck of a QB. I'm glad we have him for a while.

Barnett is a five star pro set style QB recruit from California that chose UA over several other top programs. He could probably start where ever he decides to go. I wish the young man the best and I hate with his talent he will no longer be part of the Crimson Tide.

I believe there's a stipulation where he'd be required to complete a set number of credit hours at the JUCO school and then he could transfer to another FBS school and would be eligible to play in week five.
