Those velvet antlers are BIG BIG money. A guy I know went to Canada to film in an Elk hunting an enclosure. The operations BIG money came from cutting the racks off while in velvet and grinding the racks in to a magical powder for the Asian market.

I've often wonder if White Tails paid as well for velvet antlers?

Commercial elk farmers measure antlers not by inches, but by pounds.

A rich kid's dad paid for him to shoot a huge pen raised deer here in Oneonta a few years ago. He was about twenty years old. He was posting pictures of it on Facebook and getting a lot of Congratulations, Wows, you're a great hunter, etc. from girls. Then the hunters started explaining that he shot it inside a pen like a cow. He deleted the post and hasn't posted it again that I know of.

I was watching a hunting show this past weekend and there were several deer with antlers like that showing up in the fields. One guy didn't have much time, so he got to hunt first and killed his 300+ inch deer and left. Some of the other hunters would have several freak bucks showing up in the fields and the would pick out the biggest one and shoot it. Not much sport in that. I would not pay $5 to hunt those deer. I don't understand it at all, but they are making money I'm sure.

boobs and antlers can be too big, go visit yer local Walmart if you don't think boobs can be tooooo big.

the owners usually cut the antlers off those really huge bucks as soon as they harden and can be cut safely.

I don't know what the owners do with those oversize boobies...... shocked

One of the guys at the shop raises deer. A guy paid him to let his son come kill one in the pen last year with a crossbow. The guys pen is 4 acres. The guy was in a tight and needed some money so he let him. Great way to teach a 10 year old about hunting ain't it? Not just hunting but life in general.

Elk farmer I know up in Tn raises elk for meat and antler. If you buy an elk for meat from him, he prefers that you come shoot it yourself in the pen. He stresses that he does NOT sell hunts, he sells elk, and shooting it in the pen removes any undue stress placed on the animal by loading him up and taking him to a processor to be dispatched there, which could affect the quality of the meat.
